When I was in high school i remember showing my friend my stomach--when relaxed it bulged out like I was 6 months pregnant, then I sucked it in flat as a board--we had a good laugh. I am 51 now and have always had this problem. I have been sucking in my abdomen for 3 decades! You would think my core was super strong. I eat great, excercising since high school, fit, muscular but not skinny. I'm seeing that this may just be my body type--I am short waisted, so maybe there's not enough room for all my inards!.I have my mother's body type, where my sister has a longer torso, does not have this problem. My mother is in her 70's and has a bulging torso, but normal weight. I literally contract my abdomen ALL DAY LONG...

I'm similar in weight and height and am not anorexic. Even when I try to gain weight, I can't. So stop making judgments on people you don't even know.

Oh my gosh. I actually have the same thing. In only really young..I'm my teens... And I'm self conscious about having the bulge. And I struggle to get rid of it as well. Recently I think that I have become lactose or glucose. I might have to ask my doctor about this now wow.

The reason the lower abs bulge out can be related to the position of the pelvis. If the pelvis is tilted too far anteriorly (forward) it will cause your lower back to “over arch” and push the lower part of your belly out. If you suffer from this pelvic position, your abs will bulge out, regardless of your body fat levels. To fix this problem, you must perform corrective abdominal exercises and stretch your hip flexors. By incorporating this combination of exercises and stretches into your routine, you can rapidly re-set your pelvis and flatten your abs.
I think he is right, I am aware of my pelvis tilting forward and my hips being tight, and I have a nice ripped bulge under my belly button!

Possibly your stomach may be bloated from dairy products.I notice if I avoid dairy products fully then no bloat. Also stomach could look bigger because many other reasons like water rentention or eating too much, when meal is eaten dont eat till full, instead eat till just before full

This is EXACTLY what my issue was. I am tall and thin with the belly bulge. My hip flexors are insanely tight and have exaggerated the curve in my lumbar spine. Attention to stretching the muscles within the pelvic girdle have made a tremendous difference. Also my lower back pain has almost completely resolved.

I am 5'6 and 110 lbs. I'm also an avid exerciser and yogi, but I have been struggling with the same thing for years. I know exactly what you mean. It's like a bloating that makes you look mildly pregnant or that you just drank a gallon of water and its all sitting in your gut. I've tried everything under the sun and I'm just now starting to see progress. This is what I've done... First, start implementing a low-FODMAP diet temporarily and then begin to cut out dairy and refined sugars. Go HEAVY on the leafy greens and cruciferous veggies - spinach, kale, chard, bok choy, etc. I promise you will start to feel better immediately. Also, I CAN'T STRESS THIS ENOUGH - eat FERMENTED FOODS (fermented cod liver oil, kimchi, kombucha if you can tolerate it). Feed the gut with healthy bacteria as much as you can. I've just started takin VSL#3 which is a really great probiotic that I highly recommend. Work on building up your hip flexor muscles and do yoga poses and stretches that focus on the lower abdomen and core. I was also diagnosed with IBS and I still have symptoms, but I promise it gets better. I've gone completely vegan with the exception of salmon and cod liver oil and I've never felt better.

Could be from endometriosis or ovarian cysts which cause accumulation of fluid in your lower abdomen. Do you typically have painful menstrual cramps and chronic IBS symptoms?

i was recently doing a little research and it turns out lower belly fat can be caused by a prolapsed transverse colon. there are ways to support it. exercise, stomach exercise, a colon cleanse to remove excess build up, yoga....i would google it
