Hi, I prefer to look someone in the eyes while speaking, but as I have injured my left eye, it is not easy for me anymore to make an eye contact. Is it impolite to speak like that?

Hi, eye contact is important way of communication in Western culture, but it is not everywhere like that. It is a form of nonverbal communication, and is related to polite socially accepted behavior. In Islam culture eye contact is allowed only for a second, and longer than that is exaggeration.
Eye contact and facial expressions are important for determining other person’s feelings and emotions. In East Asia keeping direct eye contact with elderly people, means being aggressive. In the western world, oppositely, avoiding eye contact is taken as less trustworthy and open.
