Hi. I'm 45 years old and I have some questions. I would really like to get answers of any kind.
Recently I started to suffer from some very strange symptoms.
They include high fever, photophobia and stiff neck. All this happened to me about a week ago and since then, all this didn’t change. I thought it will pass by it self and because of that I didn’t contact any doctor over this.
But yesterday I even felt mental status changes, dizziness and feeling like I'm going to faint out. I contacted my neurologist imidiately and after some testing he set the final diagnosis-some amebic meningoencephalitis. What more should I know about this?

Well, if you literally translate the word meningoencephalitis you will get meningitis + encephalitis. It means inflammation of the meninges and brain at the same time.
Typically, bacteria called Naegleria fowleri is causing primary amebic meningoencephalitis, which sometimes is clinically very hard to separate from acute bacterial meningitis.
You have experienced typical meningoencephalitis signs but I could say the milder form of them, because they can even include seizures and fainting, somnolence and coma.
I don’t know did you ever hear about lumbar puncture. Lumbar puncture for cerebrospinal fluid analysis is the primary diagnostic tool because in case of infection, bacterias should be found in cerebrospinal fluid.
