you know that feeling you get when you dive under water in a pool and suck the chlorine water into your sinuses? That burning sensation that travels all the way to the back of your head? When I get what doctors call a "migraine" this is the type of burning sensation I get, that lasts for days. Sometimes for a week. No amount of pain medicine will give me any relief. I have gone and seen my doctor, received shots of demerol, delodin, and other various sorts of extreme pain relief meds, none helping this pain, only knocking me out for hours only to wake up with the same pain. I have been in the ER and had MRI's and EEG's and CAT scans, with nothing revealed as to the cause. I am a 24 year old female, who has been dealing with this severe debilitating pain for almost eight years. I can't get out of bed, and cannot ease the nausea that comes with it. Of everything I've read, this is not the typical pain of a migraine, as it is more of a sinus burning pain. I do have a constant drainage in my throat, and always feel a tad bit stuffy, but has never been much of a concern to me. At this point, I am just wondering if there is anyone out there who has felt this, if you are able to get relief, or maybe even a cause?

I am getting the same exact feelings you're describing, I'm a 17 year old female and I've been getting them for about a year. My primary doctor gives me migrane medication but it never helps.. She has told me to make an appointment with a neurologist and go from there, I have yet to find a cure either.

I am 55 and have had those same symptoms since early in high school.  I can raise my head up from a bent over position and one side of my sinus' will burn like crazy!!  Also, as whimsywhit described...getting out of bed, turning over in bed..and the constant draining.  I've had all the tests you both have mentioned.  I have had it blamed on smoking (which I'm sure doesn't help the situation), but, these symptoms plagued me for YEARS before I ever smoked.  I am so tired of living on migraine meds, and sinus meds!!  I wish someone, like us, would see this and know of a solution/management/cure and report back!  I'm not happy that the two of you are also suffering, but, after all my years suffering with this...I'm glad to see that I am NOT CRAZY!!  :D  Thank you both for sharing and searching as well.

I kind of just got scared after reading the comments. I'm a 14 year old girl and I just started highschool a few months ago... Just a few minutes ago, I bent over and flipped my head upside down so I could gather my hair on the top of my head and all of a sudden, I felt like I had dove into a pool and got chlorine in my nose... After realizing that I'm not the only one who this has happened to, I saw that everyone pretty much said it's lasted for years and I'm a bit worried... Is this unnatural? Should I get this checked out? I really don't want this to last that long because it is most definitely not the greatest feeling.

From what I have read (I too have the chlorine in sinus feeling) this is actually a process by which the body fights off infections. Phagocytes are responsible for this medical marvel. Read this article: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/10559226 If you are still worried I would try to get in with an ENT. :)

Dee, I am 41 and too am glad I am NOT CRAZY! I just started smoking in the past 12 months....I know I know and cannot help but think this is related b/c I NEVER had this before a month ago. Everytime I bend over, only when I bend over, I experience the burning pain.....only in my left nostril and I too have a constant drip...but all could be coincidental. However I do have a history of an ORBITAL FRACTURE of the left eye/nose, which is where I get all the burning sensation...basically I broke the left side of my face, under my eye, which is the fat pad they call it which stops the draining into the nose...but that was 7 years ago. I am going to an ENT to see what is wrong if anything. But in the meantime, I will keep searching.

Have any of you had you spinal fluid checked to see if it leaking. My daughter has just started complaining of this and a friend of her's told my daughter that her ex-mother-in-law had the same problem and leaking spinal fluid was the cause.

I have this "Chlorine feeling" in my head, luckily it is not as bad as all of you describe. I don't have to bend over to get it, I can just be walking around and suddenly, there it is. It started for me about a month ago when my daughter brought some c**p home from day care. I have had a it for a month, been on 2 rounds of antibiotics and still can't shake it completely. I would say try those over the counter sinus flushes. I know it doesn't sound fun, but it actually isn't bad and it did seem to help. Good luck to all of you!

Basically just like some of the other comments, I bent down to tie my hair up with all the parts together. All of a sudden I had the feeling of when you have chlorine up your nose. It's like the worst feeling ever and sometimes no specific way to fix it

Yup same here I've had it for about 5 months. I remember getting kind of sick from fly like symptoms. After I got over the flue the watery rush burning feeling comes and goes a few times a day. I also get migraines about twice a week and have allergies. Haven't been to a doctor but has anyone gone here? We all asking but no answers.
