If you have brittle nails, you should keep the nails short and avoid nail polish. You should use an emollient (skin softening) cream after washing or bathing.
Brittle nails could also be a cause of vitamin definiency. Take vitamin C and B 6. one more thing, brittle nails indicate iron deficency. brittle nails may also indicate thyroid problems, problems with circulation or kidneys.

Ask your doctor for a simple blood test to check your TSH (thyroid stimulant hormone) and free T4 levels. Brittle nails and dry hair are two signs of thyroid problems and women may experience changes in their thyroid function at different stages in life including pregnancy and menopause. If your levels suggest you are hypothyroid (sluggish) then you will probably begin taking a synthetic thyroid medication daily. It will help very much, along with proper diet and regular exercise.
