i have noticed that for the past month i have gained more belly weight and i just realized it is due to my iud I think i am going to switch over to the copper one again. i just had a baby a lost a lot of weight, now i look like i could be 3 months pregnant again...

I had my IUD(MIRENA) put three years ago this January. In the past three years I have notice a huge weight gain. I was once a very athletic 130 pound muscular female.. I even had abs. I now weigh 165-170 it flucuates up and down constantly I am assuming from bloat. I have worked out and have done the same things I used to do when I was very muscular and nothing i do will work. I also have had 2 very very light periods and that is it.. Please if someone could offer me some advice I would really appreciate it. I would like to not take it out because I am very bad with taking pills and I also don't think I want any more kids, but my husband and I would like to keep out options open.. someone offer me advice!! please.. I want my old self back!!!!!!!

I too have gained about 10 lbs since I had the mirena iud inserted in January 2005. I have also noticed severe irritability and little patience. My doctor suggested trying effexor for the irritability but now I think that it may be the iud. I am considering having the iud taken out because there is no guarantee that the effexor will help with my irritability. Help!!! Should I try the effexor or just have the iud out?

I had my IUD a year . . . I didn't change my diet/excercise (I run almost everyday) and I gained THIRTY pounds during that time. I just got it taken out today due to the weight gain and constant bloating/crampiness sensation. Just knowing it's out makes me feel a lot better.

its comforting to know that i am not alone, i have had the iud for the past 5 years after the birth of my second son in november 2002. all was well and good untill the last 2 years where i have suffered weigth gain of more than 20 pounds and have been diagonosed with hypertension. i am presenlty on 10 mg/day bizocor medication with violent mood swings ranging from down in the dumps to the very high active and happy go-freemood.
in september of this year i had it removed.superisngly getting to have periods again is a relief but the possibility of another baby is daunting. hoping the weight gain,hypertension and the mood swings are related to the mirena iud and will fade away with time

I got my iud in about 8 week after my delivery. it has been a little over a year and I weigh more than what i did at my delivery!!! I use to be a size 7 and now i'm a size 16. I was told my my mother in law that it was the iud but i went by the doctor and have kept it in. now that i see other women having my problem i too am taking my iud out! being over weight makes me depressed!!!

I have had the mirena for three years and I loved it until I read about the mirena on the internet. I have been moody, gained weight, hardly ever feel like having sex, depressed, stressed, had high blood pressure, shortness of breath, tired all the time and never any energy. I didn't know why I was this way until a couple of weeks ago when I read about the mirena. Doctors should tell people the side effects before they put them in people. If they would have told me I would have never got it put in or had it taken out sooner. I go this week to take it out and I can't wait to see how my body changes to it. I've known two people that have gotten and pregnant with the iud so it isn't effective as they make it out to be. I will probably just try to use birth control pills or get my tubes tied.

I am 19 and have had the mirena for almost 3weeks. I have been bleeding ever since and have had moderate to bad cramping everyday. After having it inserted I was extremely bloated but that all seems to have settled down now. I am back down to my normal weight but seem to not be hungy and not craving anything at all.When I am eating, I dont feel like eating much. I am wondering if the weight gain people talk of is noticable within the first 3 weeks or wether it is something that happens suddenly after a month or 2 of being on mirena? I do not want to come off it but am worried after reading everyones comments. Have people experienced weight loss while being on mirena?

I have been on the IUD for about a month and I have been feeling bloated and I'm ok with that it feels like I'm on my period and I have been horner then ever on the IUD. I have had trouble in the past with the pill and the patch and the shot so I tried this and with the side effets I'm ok so far. Hope everyone have great luck finding the right one for them.

I am permanently bloated and crampy!!
I have light bleeding for about 3 weeks out of the month.
All of which makes for a great sex life!
I was also told that the Mirena wouldnt cause weight gain. I now believe that to be incorrect
I have an appointment to have mine taken out next week! I will post again in a few weeks!

I dont know what is going on with me and my body but i had the mirena inserted in Feb and for some reason im gaining unbelievable weight. I had 3 c-sections so my stomach is blown up. Ive taken 5 different pregancie test and all of them came back negative. My stomach looks like im 4 mths pregant and i carried big with all my kids......My incesion feels like its tightening up and it moves.......I dont know but what should i do?

I got the Mirena in June 2007, I have 2 kids and not sure if I want any more. I saw this as a good alternative to Pills and a lot less worry that I would forget a pill. I have gained 10 lbs since then and am discouraged. My appetite is that of a pregnant woman and I have a hard time not eating during these cravings. I am supposed to go in today to have it checked again because of pelvic pain and the fact I can't feel the strings anymore. YIKES!! %-)

hi....I have MIRENA since september 2006, and since then I have noticed alot of extra weight..first I thought it was baby weight that was hard to loose..but then I realized that not having menstrual periods at all was affecting me in a way.Even though doctors deny isn't true, it is true, iud makes women gain weight, I haven't drink soda in 5 months, I'm on a diet, i'm walking 40 minutes 5 times a week since 2 months ago already, and still haven't notice less weight, I haven't gain more, but I can't loose weight, finally I have my appoinment in a week to get it removed....

I have also gained weight!! I am on a 1100 calorie per day low fat diet and I do 3 hours of active cardio a day, and have been since 6 weeks post-partum. But when I got the mirena put in when my son was 4 months I gained 12 lbs in a month, and now my son is 11 months and I am 28 lbs heavier when than when I got it. I way more now than I did when I was pregnant! I plan on getting it removed in a month, and I look forward to being my tiny self again.
