mirena iud weight gain

update, i got my mirena out one week ago and my tummy has gone down already it dosnt look like im 5 mths pregnant now, will keep posted if i start to lose more weight

I'm a small framed 31 year old woman. I started gaining weight after having the Mirena put in. I'm 5'6 and my NORMAL weight is between 115 and 120. I've had the Mirena for 3 yrs now and I look 6 months pregnant. I haven't gained weight anywhere else except for in my stomach area...my current weight is 145. I work as a home health aide doing house work for the elderly so I'm not sitting on my butt all day...I also watch what I eat and intake about 1200 cal. a day.



The only conclusion I can come up with is the Mirena restricts weight loss.

Everything that everyone has said totally relates to me! my daughter just turned 1 yesterday and had the Mirena inserted maybe just a month after she was born...since than i have noticed an incredible 65 pounds being put on! i have NEVER weighed this much ever and I didnt think much of the Mirena being the cause until day before yesterday! i am always hungry and i have nasty mood swings as well as breat leakage. I am seriously considering haveing this thing removed!

I have had mirena 5 years ago and i and i gained 12 kilos in one year and the time i got this much weight before was after my second pregnancy..i lost my weight after 3 years working out everyday which is unusual for me and my stomack and my tommy still not going flat like it was before ..i asked my doctors and they said mirena has nothing to do with this..but i know my body ..the time i put mirena my body started to change..

I also had the Mirena placed on April 29th, and it has been the worst experience ever. Weight Gain of 20lbs from the day I got up until this very day. Yes I had it taken out! It has caused allergic reaction, mood swings, always tired and sleepy, depressed, foul discharge, migraines, severe bleeding and cramping, and I'm always itching. When the docyor inserted she expressed it was the best thing happening, no periods, really no whole lot of side effects, and that's so untrue!

I too had my mirena inserted about 6 months after having my first child. I only gained 17 lbs while prego with my son. He is now getting ready to turn 3, so I have had mirena for about 2 1/2 years. My periods stopped immediately, never had one after having it put in, a little spotting for a few days after and then nothing since in way of that. I am not entirely sure it's the mirena that causes the weight gain, but the fact that the periods stop. Anytime there is a change with hormones, medical studies show this can and will cause weight gain. My doctor keeps telling me it's not the mirena causing the weight gain. I am doing nothing different so I believe it's the mirena or the fact that my periods have stopped. I lost all 17 lbs. plus another 10 after having my son....got the mirena and now 2.5 years later, I weigh about 45 lbs more than I did pre-pregnancy. Definitely the heaviest ever in my life. I am going to have my mirena taken out. I also have had issues with cysts that have been VERY painful and costly, had to have some tests done that due to insurance cost me nearly $1500 just to be sure it was cysts and nothing more serious. I have known other people that have had more severe problems with the cysts and just about everyone I know has experienced major weight gain.....meaning 20 lbs or more, people of all ages that I know with the mirena. i had marena iud since 2008 i dont like it because i got weight gain about 20p and i got a hair on my face and my breast is become bigger than first .when i lock at me in the merror i think thats not me and some times i fell my heart pumping is become faster and it well kell me i always thinking to remoe it but i cant decide what else i can use i think all the pirth control its not good

I put on 27 lbs in the 16 months I had the Mirena in - I am getting it removed THIS WEEK!!! I am so frustrated. I have not changed a single thing in my diet and excercise routine. I thought I was going CRAZY!!!! It is absolutely awful. I would rather have a surprise baby than get heart disease and diabetes becuase of the insane amount of weight this damn IUD is causing.

i have the iud for about 14 months now. i have gained 13 lbs!!!!! since then. i'm only 5 feet tall so this is a lot and i've ever been this heavy since i was pregnat. I keep a healthy meal routine and exercise at least 3-4 times per week....it's all i can do due to work and family. it has been nice to not have periods and not have the worries of becoming pregnant. I went in today for removal and the sting has been "pushed" up and now i need to book an outpatient procedure to get it removed!!!!! I'm very frustrated with it bc it was such a painful experience to place in since i never dialed with my only child. i will get it removed. i can stand the weight gain!!!!!
