My 8yo son is struggling with his exceptionally large privates. He's been checked out by his paediatrician, who is confident that there's nothing to worry about medically, but the discomfort he's been feeling whilst dressing for school came to a head recently. He no longer fits in his underwear (bought him Marks & Spencer as they've been the better choice so far) and is refusing to wear them as a result. He needs to wear some because his school makes the kids change for PE and he's been told off about not wearing anything underneath.
I don't feel particularly comfortable asking a shop attendant for what I need and I don't know where I can go for alternative brands or choices for underwear. Has anyone else had to deal with this problem with your boy(s) and what solutions were available? I'm a single mum working small hours, but I don't mind having to pay a bit extra for his comfort.
He's of average build for his age, so going up underwear sizes isn't really an option as they're too loose around his waist. He just needs more room for his willy.

Maybe you could switch the style of underwear he uses, if he is wearing briefs maybe loose fitting boxers will give him more comfort.
If you have to go to a larger size to make him more comfortable could you take in the waistband at the back?
Maybe folding the waistband and overlapping it at the back and sewing it will work to keep his underwear up and the larger size will give him more comfort.
I doubt if they make underwear for boys his age with extra room up front so you might have to try to alter them to suit.
Maybe wearing some kind of shorts with a draw string and using them for underwear might work.

Boxer-briefs are definitely the better style so far. Tried some adjusting as you suggested, but those end up being just as uncomfortable. In order for him to have enough space, he has to go up a few sizes and that means a lot has to be taken off the waistband.

I wonder if he was to try using something like pajma shorts if they would work for underwear.
Maybe using sweat pants shorts would work at least with the draw string they would stay up.

I've been doing that for him in the morning most days. He's not too happy when I do, but he never does it all the way up. Can cause malfunctions and his teachers notice. Very strict uniform code.

My son (6yrs) is going through much the same, although changing for PE hasn't been an issue during the pandemic. I hope you can talk to his teachers sooner rather than later about that - you can't be there to support him all the time. Keeping him in loose-fitting clothing as much as possible at home will help for the time being. I've found that something stretchy like aquashorts which you can look up on Amazon, do a fine job for keeping him "all together" but without any kind of unnecessary restriction. Mikezx's suggestion for sweatpants or jogging bottoms style shorts might be worth giving a go - will try that too, thank you Mike! He's going back to school shortly and the trousers nightmare will begin again, but its been much safer with the aquashorts because there's nothing for the zip to catch :) It smooths everything over for lack of a better word.

I have had some of the same issues with my son (now 13). Luckily he doesn't have to wear a uniform. He doesn't wear underwear because they are just too uncomfortable for him and it is almost impossible to find some that fits. Couldn't you talk to the school about that and explain why he can't wear underwear. Also my son always sleeps completely nude that's the only way he can feel free and comfortable in bed.
