Hello, guys. I went to a doctor's office since it seemed I had anemia. I did a blood test and my doctor said I was found large erythrocytes. It seems that my erythrocytes are bigger than normal. I wonder what this is. What can you tell me about this? Should I be worried? Thanks.

Well, you shouldn't worry a lot, but you should treat it. The large erythrocytes are called megaloblasts. They usually appear with megaloblastic anemia. This anemia appears when there is vitamin B12 deficiency. It can be a result of some gastric disorder. Normally, B12 is absorbed via gastric mucosa. When it is damaged, for instance in gastritis, this vitamin isn't absorbed properly. B12 is necessary for erythropoiesis – the production of erythrocytes. You should consult your doctor what to do. I hope everything will be all right.
