My mother has been recently diagnosed with melanoma. We thought she had a simple mole, but it seems that she had something different. I would like to know if I should be afraid for her condition. What can you tell me about the prognosis? I was hoping to find out something here. Thanks.

Hi to you too. You should be concerned, but not afraid. It is your mother that needs help and you must support her. If it is discovered in early stages, then you don’t need to worry. The melanoma will be removed with nearby tissue. Prognosis is good in this stage. If it is in the middle stage, then prognosis is more serious, but still good. Maybe some regional lymphatic nodes will be removed. In this case surgery is more radical. Discuss these issues with your mother’s doctor.
