My son is a case of Nephrotic Syndrome from the age of 3 yrs. Now he is 19 years but even now he has relapses twice a year sometimes. From the age of 11 yrs to 15 years he had no relapses at all. He takes Omnocortil (steroids) during relapes. Please advise me when he would stop with relapses. Please do reply to me and advise me with some tips to improve his kidney function. Thank you.

Hello,

nephrotic syndrome is practically jut the general name for the group of symptoms like elevated proteins in urine, but without any cause for the condition specified. Since this has been going on since your son was three, it seems strange his pediatrician didn't forward you to the urologist so that the exact reason behind the nephrotic syndrome can be determined. I'm telling you that because this is what could help stop the relapses - finding what exactly is causing the raised proteins and other symptoms that form nephrotic syndrome. I'd recommend you to try getting your son to the urologist and getting all the necessary tests done to find the cause. This is not important just because of the relapses, but also because nephrotic syndrome lasting this long could cause even more damage to your son's kidneys.

Wish you all the best!
