yes, i never gain weight until i started taking synthroid. and now i cannot lose it. my stomach is very large along with the rest of my body.I have been on it for 12 years and would like to find another way to treat my hypothyrodism. Most doctors will tell you that synthroid does NOT make you gain weight but I don't believe it. I know my body and this weight gain is very unnatural for me. Please let me know if you find any answers.

Yes...I had hyperthyroidism - was given an I31 radioactive ablation which "killed" my thyroid. I went from being a size 4/6 to being a 10/12 within 40 days. I take levothyroxine now and look like I am 6 months pregnant - my stomach stays bloated looking. I feel terrible from weighing this much. If I take the 37.5 mg of medicine, I am able to focus better and I generally am not so tired. However, I lose alot of hair, am constipated, bloated, and have too much weight. I don't know what to do...Endocronologists just change dosage yet I still don't feel right.

Are you serious - do you think we haven't tried everything.. Do you think that we like to live like this...I have tried it all and see no results. My doctor thinks like you that I have to put down the cupcake or whatever - she told me that I just need to go on a diet which of course she had a program that if I pay 95 dollars a week I could get the "right food" and would lose weight. Most of us have been suffering for years and have been ignored by our doctors...We try effortlessly to diagnois ourselves - seekings natural remedies, vitamins...etc. No one listens, no one believes us, no one helps us... we are left to our resources. We are desperate and just want to be taken seriously. I've been on Synthroid for years and feel no difference in my energy, mood, hair loss, weight gain..etc. Each time I go to my doctors visit - she looks at the lab results and that's it...she never listens to me.. She never even looks me in the eye and gives me constructive advice. I leave feeling helpless and hopeless instead of feeling confident that she knows what's best for me. Until you are in my shoes - don't give off-the-cuff advice. I've already gotten that from my so called doctor- funny I don't feel any better.. thanks though - I'm glad think you know it all....but I'm still looking for the real solution

Are you serious!! Do you really think we haven't done it all before seeking help. I've been on Synthroid for years and have never, never felt any better. My doctor will look at the bottom line (tsh results) and deem me cured. I'm still exhaused, gaining weight on a unbelievable scale, my muscles hurt, my hair is falling out and I feel like I'm the failure. Really?? It's me??? My doctor basically calls me a fatass and never really listens to me. She did offer a program - basically a another weight watchers, jenny craig or whatever that she had financial interest in and all I had to do is pay $95 a week to be thinner. She never looks me in he eye and shows me any kind of respect. I leave feeling helpless and hopeless. I look to the internet for answers not more judgements. Unless you've been in my shoes, you have no right to give me an off - the - cuff solution. I already get that from my so called phycisian..I'm not looking for a quick fix -I'm looking to feel better..

You have no clue......you have no idea how debilitating this condition is..apparently you haven't had the symptoms most of the people logged on this site has had. You have no clue of how debilitating this condition is and shouldn't be allowed to comment... we have done the exercise and diet with no results. We need help not the off the cuff advice we hear from our out of touch physcians ---all we want is to be normal - where we have a chance to enjoy our lives instead of feeling that we are failures.. hope you never have to go through what we do.......

To whomever suggested that I put down my computer and exercise, should walk (or march) a mile in my shoes. I am a 24 year veteran of the United States Army. I exercise more in one day than he/she probably ever has! Now, my question to you....where did you go to medical school? Exactly. You didn't even graduate college much less medical school. I do have a FEW college degrees...and five children...and at 46 years old, I am 5"10" tall and weigh 160 lbs. Not bad for someone who gets on the computer once or twice a week!

I have been on synthroid for about 20years. My weight has always been a major issue, all my drs say it's not the thyroid that's keeping the weight on, I need to cut back, so I cut back almost to starvation which I believed caused my thyroid to really go berserk, my current dr. Suggested that I have barriatrics surgery and I did. I managed to keep my weight down for about 5 months , but I had to take more synthroid. I am now on 275mcg and the weight is rising almost daily. My dr now says that the weight that I have managed to keep off is good considering my lack of a thyroid gland.

Hi there I am on Synthroid because my thyroid was removed I am not sure if I could take the 7-keto instead of the synthroid but I am sure I should not be taking them together

Taking synthroid will not interfere with getting pregnant. At least that is what my doctor told me. Infact, if you have hypothyroidism then you need something to replace the T4 that you are no producing on your own as T-4 is the catalyst for so many of the things that your body is supposed to do on its own.

Taking Synthroid does not interfere with getting pregnant. I have been on Synthroid for 17 years and I conceived and carried 3 healthy babies to term. My oldest is now 7 and my youngest is 2 and none of them had any complications due to me taking Synthroid.

I have the same problem!!! I knew its was just an assumption! The first time like 10 years ago, I gained 30lbs with synthroid in one year and I felt pretty tired all day. I would even fall as sleep at the wheel. It was horrible and terrible. So, I decided to leave them. I felt better, but did not lose the weight to what I was. My tests after that kept being normal within the high range. So, now, about a year ago, I went to this endocrinologyst because I was trying to get pregnant. He said my thyroid needed to be at lower level, so he had to put me on thyroid again. I said, "is that going to make me gain weight? I took them before and I gained 30lbs." he said, "No, you won't. Synthroid does not have that side effect". And now, sure enough, I weigh 185 and have even been over 190!!! I totally credit my weight gain to Synthroid and I will have a talk with my doctor about your postings. I'm concerned about my weight. I'm too young.
