Speaking from experience (I was circumcised at 14 and well into puberty) provide you son with a good water-based lube he can use when he masturbates and encourage him to use. It will make mastubation a much more comfortable experience and help minimize any remaining discomfort from the surgery. Similarly, it's far better to let him know that you'e aware he masturbates and that he can talk to you about it if he's having pain or difficulty.

Our son had a very long foreskin but not really a phimosis.
