Hi Issy!

Not sure if you'll read this as your post is quite old but thanks for your post - you've made me feel optimistic again! I'm UK-based too and going crazy because doctors have been useless and don't seem to care. It's been suggested that I have urethral syndrome also, and am willing to do anything to get rid of it! I just wondered how you are feeling nowadays? I'd be keen to have the same procedure as you, given if that's what the uro-gynaecologist I'm seeing next month thinks I have.

Cheers,

Laura

I hope you discussed this with your doctor and then went to someone else in another major city with a good reputation for a second opinion and perhaps treatment. Sounds like a possible law suite. I did not have as severe problems but had a doctor that did not listen to me about the type of sutures and ended up with severe issues and pre cancerous cells-I ended up with several surgeries and seeing another doctor for my problems monthly for almost 2 1/2 years after my surgery. Wish you the best.

Cranberry, vitamin C, teas, (green tea also), are all acidic... You want to make the urine more alkaline.
Try peppermint tea, horsetail tea, marshmallow root tea, chamomile tea.. No tomato, spicy foods, alcohol, coffee.. Go to the Interstitial cystitis website and read their dietary recommendations.. Even if you don't have IC, the diet can be extremely beneficial when you're having a bad UTI.

Cut out the cranberry.. Try a mix of water and a quarter teaspoon of baking soda. Immediate relief.. If you do have a UTI get yourself to a dr. An untreated UTI. Can spread to the kidneys and that's no joke.

To anyone that has not alreay done so, I suggest that you have a complete examination (urethra and vagina) and have every potential swab test taken. There are infections that make it feel like a uti but are actaully vaginal infections. The sooner these can be treated, the better. I had back to back UTIs that were successfully treated with antibiotics, but I never did feel the same after the second uti. I still had some burning when I peed and sharp pains soemtimes after I peed, which at the the time I thought were coming form my urethra. I went to a urologist who did not actually examine me but just said that I needed more time to heal and it would eventually go away. After about 2 weeks it only got worse so I went to urgent care and asked them to do a complete full examination (hindsight I should have gone to the gyno or a urologist gyno combination, but it was a weekend day). It was found that I did not have a uti, but actually had bacterial vaginosis, which can often give similar symptoms as a uti. I was put on antibiotics for the specific bv causing bacteria. I have not felt normal like this for 3 months. So I suggest to anyone that still has pain to get EVERYTHING checked out instead of just their urethra. There are STDs and other infections that can be tested for that may be causes your symptoms. If you wait to long, however, pelvic inflamitory disease could potentially occur which will only increase discomfort and healing time. Good luck to everyone.

The name of the bacteria is E-Coli.. D Mannose will only work on e-Coli, however 90% of UTIs are E-Coli based. It works!! The powder is better.

The answer someone gave about damage being done to the UT makes sense and explains lingering pain, I thought. I was actually peeing small pieces of red blood at one point besides all colors of urine with different smells .... A lot of funky bacteria they said in the ER. So, a few days after I'm done the course of antibiotics, the took a Difulcan for yeast (in case lingering discomfort was that), I still don't feel normal although I have no urinary symptoms (urgency or burn) but pain uretha sore back and lower pelvis. Last time I. Felt like this for months and actually took Chinese herbs from Chinese do tor and that helped immediately. Going to see him for herbs tomorrow. Chinese Medicine has always helped without side effects for me and any illness.... Should trust it more and not just go to it when western medicine doesn't work. Anyway, wanted to tell many writers in this thread they should give TCM a try.

Hi to all I feel for you I know what your going though. I had my ureatha dilated 2 times. Due to old school thinking. But i did find a site if yo uwill go to  google and put in  this same heading No UTI painful urethra you will find a site that will help you. its from the UK and the best I have found. Its about how the bladder gets inflammed due to the immune system which can cause all the pain we been having. I never have infection at all.  TOday I am suffering I think due to tight paints but in the past it was after having sex. then my clit and urethra would throb up into my urine tract.  B

hey guys! okay, i am a 22 year old female. i have been literally experiencing the SAME things as all of you since i was 18, and since the first time i had sex and contracted a uti. after that first time i had multiple utis in a row.

after the many utis died down, i started feeling intense urethral pain, like a burning/stinging pain that won't go away. it would happen to be the most intense at night while i was trying to fall asleep. i went to the doctor, even a urologist and they had no idea what was going on with me. i've taken a lot of antibiotics in the process and i still have this weird pain. if i drink beer, or any alcohol i can immediately feel the sensation beginning to occur. it's insane.

**** here's some things i have figured out about it:

- drinking water helps, obviously. not peeing until you actually do really have to pee helps, like training your bladder.

- dehyration is an extreme factor in this. i always feel the pain when i wake up in the morning and it hurts until i drink enough water to rehydrate myself.

- after a night of going out, drink sooo much water when you come home, because i have noticed that the alcohol will dry you out and make it hurt a lot the next morning. especially when drinking wine.

- when i feel it flaring up and i sit down, it seems to reduce the pain.

- if you insert your finger inside yourself (i know i know) and lightly but with pressure push up on your urethra and hold it there, the pain seems to reduce slighty.

- pee immediately after sex. i'm serious. it helps.

- the more lubricated you are during sex, the higher the chances are of you not feeling any pain from it afterwards.

- if you relax and don't think about the pain, it seems to subside. sometimes i feel like a lot of the dull burning sensation is related to stress.

- ibuprofen helps. smoking marijuana helps (also being serious).

- remember not to wear underwear for a lot of days in a row. i feel like the cleaner the situation is down there the better it is.

stay positive guys. all i can say is that since i have gotten older, the infamation seems to be decreasing slowly. sorry for stating the obvious a lot here, but i really want to help anyone who knows how i feel.

FOR 45 YEARS I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND THE ANSWER TILL ABOUT 11 YEARS AGO I DISCOVERED 500 MG KEPLEX AT BEDTIME KEEP ME PAIN FREE OCCASIONALLY IT WOULD FLARE MAYBE TWICE A YEAR FOR A DAY BUT THINGS WERE GOOD NOW IT HAS STARTED TO BECOME MORE AND WHEN IT FLARES I TAKE 500MG TWICE A DAY. IT IS HORRIBLE THEY CAN HELP SO MANY DIFFERENT AILMENTS YET THIS SEEMS TO BE FORGOTTEN OR NOT IMPORTANT ENOUGH TO GET DOCTORS INTERESTED IN FINDING A CURE. I PRAY THEY FIND HOW TO FIX THIS.

Sounds exactly what I am putting up with. For the past 2 and 1/2 years. Am presently on antibiotics for 3 months and nearly finished. Scared when they wear off that the paid will return with the bleeding. Again also told no infection. Next step is to a Urologist I guess. Had 3 gynecologists each with a different answer. Interested to hear how you get on. Sex life is almost non existent, heaps of creams help out here. Once a month as opposed to once a week. Had enough.

I have all of these same symptoms that all of you are describing, I'm in terrible pain, and am looking for any solutions.  After I left this page, I found one website. There are explained condition which is exactly what seems to be wrong with all of us.  I've never heard of Female Urethral Syndrome, and my doctor has never mentioned it but I'm glad I can now give it a name and hopefully get help for it.  I hope this helps!!!
