It's called an EPIDERMOID CYST.
It isn't usually harmful and it almost always will go away on its own. Apparently, they can be treated by a dermatologist. He/she may use a special device to lance or drain or pop it.
I get them a couple of times a year. From my experience, you can mess with it a lot trying to pop it, but it is very difficult and might just make it bigger, more irritated, red, and embarrassing. I have one now and I just popped it minutes ago. I had to use my fingernails and get as close to the ball as I could.
You can read a more scholarly article at the following site (although you may need a medical dictionary to understand it): http://www.emedicine.com/derm/topic860.htm
Best of luck!

I have had these before, I actually have one right now which is a little bit big, but not as much as the others. Around the start of this year I had a huge one on my ear lobe, and my mum asked her friend about it. She said to get velvet soap, sugar and rub both onto a bandaid and put it on the effected area.
I left it on for a day, took it off that night and turned my ear lobe to have a look, and when I turned it, everything came out!!!! My problems were solved.
Now i'm sitting here with the same problem, I have the bandaid on, but at first the lump appeared, but this mroning I woke up with another lump, but not as big, but it's really stiff and hard, and kind of makes my ear lobe come out. Hopefully it will pop tonight.

I just got my ears peirced. I had them peirced in 1st grade and i got a lump in my ear and let them close up. Then about two years ago i got another small lump. I thought it might be a zit? it went away though. But now i got my ears peirced again and the lump is back. Ive had them peirced for about 4 weeks and now the lump is getting to be a pretty good size. It hurts some if i squeeze it. Not much though. It's really hard too.. My ear was leaking this yellowish fluid for a few days, and then it stoped and thats when I got the lump. Maybe it's full of puss? What should I do to get it away? I know it must be bad to touch it but I can't keep my hands off of it. I have sea salt, and i've been soaking my ear in it every now and then. What else should i do?

Can there possibly be some sort of infection to happen to an earlobe? The earlobe is swollen and is purple and red. Purple on the bottom and really red in the back of the lobe.

I noticed a bump in the ear lobe too, I squeezed (rather hard) and got a solid form of "puss". I have never had my ear pearced, but this lump can be felt from both sides of the lobe. It has not decreesed in size either, and my ear lobe is now brused. Hope I didn't mess anything up.....

to all u people with earlobe lumps hi. i have 1 too. i heard that holding a hot compress on it for 10-20 minuets for 3-4 times a day should help, but i would suggest talking to ur docters about then. i dont think its anything serious because many people have them and we're perefectly healthy. so anyway i hope this hot compress thing works 4 u peoples sake and my own

Hi everyone, please help :-(
I have what my GP told me was a cyst in my left earlobe. She referred me to a plastic surgeon and he said the same thing. My cyst apparently had gotten infected and so my earlobe was quite swollen and full of what i think is pus.
He prescribed me anti-biotics, Keflex i think it was called until the infection would subside so he could operate and remove the cyst without having to remove too much of the earlobe.
BUT now the antibiotics has seemed to aggravate my earlobe infection and its swelling up to 2-3 times the original infected size. Its now red, swollen, very tender to touch where it wasnt before. I'm going to give him a call tomorrow but as of now im worried as if i keep taking the antibiotics i fear its going to get too big and swollen.
He said the pus might seep through or something, but the skin seems to thick for that to ever happen.
Please help!?!

Hey, don't go scaring people with tumor talk.
I've had this problem a few times, just don't touch it. Even if it hurts or if you want to look at it, don't touch it. It just hurts more and probably makes things worse. If the problem persists go talk to a doctor, but most likely its an infection. Ears can trap infections easily, thanks to all of the ridges and nooks in them. When you're drying off after washing, make sure to dry well and maybe it will solve the problem. Water hanging around in your ears is never a good thing!

i too have a small lump within my left ear lobe.
i feel a connection to be 1 of several things.
build up of soap from the piercing hole, however this is unlikely as the lump is very firm and not near the hole.
the second is a cyst developed by system poisoning, usage of cocaine and ather narcotics products, LIKELY as it has only happened since the use of drugs.
and the third an unwanted lump which we all fear. im yet to find out but if i do ill let you all known

What about people who can't afford plastic surgery. There are people out there that can't afford it. Like myself.
