Ok so the background I can give is that all my life I've never been one to have a bm every day guarnateed. I would normally go once every other day and that's when I was drinking coffee every single day. Currently I am 36 wks pregnant and in the beginning of my pregnancy I went to my PCP with concerns because I was having horrible constipation, stomach cramping and the feeling I could never fully empty my bowels. At the time she told me she was not concerned that she believed this was normal "pregnancy stuff". My anxiety subsided a bit but on and off throughout my pregnancy I would go from having normal bms to again going days without anything. When I would be able to go to the bathroom 8 times out of 10 the stools were very hard to pass, smaller and hard. At around 34 weeks for about 4 days I would feel the urge to go to the bathroom only for nothing to come out except browish maybe even blood tinged thick mucus. One day I did finally have an actual bowel movement only to find a small bit of blood on the toliet paprer and also (after looking) a small amount of blood on the actual stool. That was about 5 days or so ago. Since then I have had a hard time passing any stools, the continued feeling of not being completely done and blood on the outside of the actual stool and some tailbone pain. I'm so sorry for the details but I am so dang scared, I have a 3 yrs old, a husband and pregnant with my second and I am petrified to find out I have rectal cancer or something. I am 26 yrs old and I don't know of anyone in my family who has had colon/rectal cancer but I also don't know much of my family history except immediate parents/grandparents. I do have an appt in the next two weeks to see a GI but would love maybe some feedback as to whether or not this is sounding more and more like cancer or something not so terminal?

Hi Sage,
I don't think you need to be concerned that you have cancer of the bowels. There are a lot and I mean A LOT of different internal disorders, I have one of them - Celiac Disease which is an autoimmune disease and affects my intestines and bowels and so much else.
I am a firm believer that pregnancy can do some pretty nasty stuff to the females body. I have undergone a few surgeries/procedures due to my pregnancy. Yes, we are meant to carry children but every body is different and treats pregnancies different and some pregnancies do damage to the body.
It can take awhile to get a diagnosis of the gastro distress but I think that you are a step ahead because you ARE pregnant and it is more serious now. You don't want to be impacted during birth, the pushing stage is not pretty and you could let loose a lot of your bowel content, you never know.
If coffee made you go before do you try non-caffeinated teas or just plain warm water? That often helped me when I was pregnant and I also allowed myself one cup of caffeine while I was pregnant and my daughter is absolutely fine. Actually, you can give her a teaspoon of coffee now and she loves it and wants more. She is already a coffee w**** at 2.5 years old!
Anyways, just relax. I know it sucks, but there is an end in sight for you. It usually takes a long time to get those kind of appointments, at least here in Canada.
Good luck and I hope I helped some!
BTW congratulations, do you know what you are having?
