The old wives tale says it means one has told a lie. But I wonder what the real reason is. I seem to get them from time to time in the same general areas from time to time. Just back a little ways from the tip and on top but close to the side (sometimes one side, sometimes the other). They last 2-3 days depending on the sore.
Also I sometimes get other sores that remind me of tiny canker sores on the side of the tongue, but usually they only last a day, or maybe two with some few of them.
Also used to get, for a while, sores on the bottom of the tongue, which were either white patches, or they looked like the soft stringy parts under the tongue were being eaten away by something. They were the worst of all, pretty painful and could last a few days. Thankfully it has been a good while since I had any of those.
