Hi, I am a thirty one years old woman. Because of my cancer, I had to undergo a hysterectomy. My health state has improved. Now my husband and I are thinking about expanding our family. Adoption was the first thing that crossed our minds. Few days ago I heard about uterus transplant. Can you tell me something about it? Can it be a possibility for me?

Hi, I am glad that your health condition is fine, especially after a serious condition that you had. Uterus transplant is a procedure that has yet to be developed. There were some, unfortunately, unsuccessful tries. A group of doctors in USA are trying to find the best way for uterus transplant. A woman would receive a uterus from a dead person. After the transplantation an anti rejection medicine would be given. In vitro fertilization is how the pregnancy will be achieved. After the child birth the uterus would be removed with the c-section because it could pose a treat to a woman's health since she would have to continue taking anti rejection drugs. However there are still years of research ahead of scientists. I truly hope that they will be successful for the benefit of all women like you.
