My symptoms were pretty much as follows:
Constiption that requires copious amount of water and exercise to move.
Minor bowel impactions from years of constiption that make you feel as though you cannot evacuate.
Malaise when diarrhea or constiption occurs
Gas
Acid reflux
I would also get coming and going sharp pains that would result in diarrhea moving hard stool out. It would always hurt more when the stool was sitting around where the surgery happened.
I firmly believe the appendix has a lot to do with healthy digestion and wish mine never would have ruptured.
Either way, I didn’t figure this out until after years of back procedures and scans until I got so sick from vomiting and diarrhea that I went to a urgent care clinic. the doctors told me try pepto bismal and gave me narcotics/anti biotics. I was very upset and went home and did some research and figured I would give probiotics a chance. My wife’s family is Asia and her grandfather suggested that we try this plant Kratom. I was hesitant due to what I had read in news articles but I’m a science major and I did my research to find that it is completely sensationalized and really just made illegal for money reasons. I used Kratom as an opioid substitute when I could tolerate it and aster about a week I just started to forget about my gut and the “back” pain and now I’m moving forward.
Opiods have a huge stigma around them in this day and age and I was glad to leave them in the dust. If anyone has ever had to sign a pain management contract they know how difficult it can be to live that lifestyle. Everything revolves around doctors and visits and making sure you fit into their schedules. Leaving little time to live your life and function.
After using Kratom for a few months off and on (mostly when I forget to take pro biotics consistently, eat homemade sourkraut or drink kombucha) I never noticed dependence or withdrawal and my body felt great. Probably the best part is that it is a fiber and will help solidify your stools in the same way Metamucil would.
Hope this helps. Tried to share as much experience as I could because trust me. If I could go back in time and change one thing, it would be to just give myself some better information.
All of the things I mentioned above are completely legal in WA state. So give it a shot. I wish I could have found this out sooner but my pride and faith in the medical system that I worked/volunteered in for many years, along with social stigma of Kratom/CBD/Probiotics, kept me locked in place for way too long.
Hope this helps, I would try the pro biotics first and then work your way up to the others if you have any of the same issues I did.

Like a lot of people here (and I'm glad I'm not alone in this) I had a ruptured appendix removed. My operation was in 2014. Within 6 weeks, I was experiencing really bad pendulum of symptoms between diarrhoea, constipation, constant stomach ache, stabbing pains, etc. It's been an on off thing since then and no doctor I've been to has been able to tell me concrete what it is. I've had IBS, stress and depression and ulcerative colitis thrown at me. My stomach feels really swollen sometimes and I'm having the same sensitivity to foods as some others, though I haven't explored the full range of this yet (learning from you folks and applying it to what I already know). Other symptoms are blood in poo (not always piles related), piles, bloating, varying consistency in poo, nausea, inability to move about on bad days or get comfortable lying down, etc. Does anyone have any guidance? I'm struggling to get doctor's to listen and this has been going on since 2014.

Hi there, my name is Kieran. I had a ruptured appendix in 2012 and then a small bowel obstruction in 2014 which was cut and stitched. I had ulceration of a part of my large bowel in 2016. For the last few years I managed to get by but the stress of the pandemic, change in eating habits etc has lead to extreme fatigue points in my day and now my ascending colon was painful for a week, tender for a week and now heavy for a week. I feel that a doctor will simply have this scanned and have me on antibiotics or something. I have no other issues or symptoms but the pain feels like nerve pain down into my groin and right thigh. Sometimes I wonder if the nerves flare up.
I started following 'medical medium' and just the celery juicing has led me from a small constipated bowel movement daily to healthy regular movements 2-3 times a day. I eat more fruits now and rest when I need. I hydrate and avoid dairy and gluten. I use Triphala to keep regular and that has been a godsend - its herbal but make sure you buy from a reputable company. But now that I saw success in better bowel habits in the last 6 weeks, Ive had these issues for three weeks.
It feels like it never ends but I know this too shall pass. I wish the same for everyone here I read about too.
