its been 18 days and the stiches are not dissolving yet. how long deos it generally take for the stiches to dissolve ?

It depends upon what the sutures where made of. It can take a week or two, but in some cases it can last longer.
Check with your surgeon. They can tell you exactly when to expect them to come out OR remove them if needed.
