I'm a 17 year old male. it's been 9 days since my tonsillectomy and I've experienced a very noticeable voice change, it sounds like I have something in my throat according to my relatives.

Will it eventually go back to normal, or am I stuck sounding like this?

Hi!
It should eventually come back. You are only 9 days out of surgery. But, there is a very low chance that you can come out of surgery with a "nasal" sounding voice....think Fran Drescher. However, there is hope!! I would wait until you are fully healed before you do anything. The scars in your throat are changing the quality and sound of your voice, so if all goes right, once you are healed, you should go back to normal.

If you find that your voice does not go back to normal, or atleast not to the extent that you would like it to, consider seeing a speech-language pathologist. More specifically, one who specializes in voice therapy. Besides helping little kids say their /r/'s better, they also have a much larger scope of practice. They can give you vocal exercises to decrease the scaring and make you have a better, strong, and possibly even same voice as pre-surgery.

Hope this helps, let me know if you have any questions!!
