Unprotected sex is always a high risk for pregnancy. I'd had unprotected sex for 2 years using the withdrawal method and found out I was pregnant a month ago. It was obviously precum that made me pregnant.

birthcontrol is 99% effective against pregnancy, and thats considering a sperm count of roughly a million; nearly impossible(not completely impossible) to get pregnancy via precum with birthcontrol as long as your gf is taking the pill properly.(in terms of of taking it every day nearly the same time, not stopping in days at a time, etc.)
Condoms are the ONLY way to protect against STIs though, so you could contract an STI without a condom and should thus get tested first. Either of you can have it and not know or show symptoms!
