My husband was taken to the dr's about 6 wks ago with a small sac growing from the bottom of his uvula and a sore throat. He was prescribed prednisone. The sore throat never went away and now he has what is described as pressure around the throat area. He has a sore throat with this..no other symptoms except that he is tired a lot. The current dr prescribed him a strong Prevacid antacid and thought that maybe he could have acid reflux. His family history includes a sister who had thryoid cancer at 40yr old. He's worried that it's throat cancer...Could it be? The small sac on the uvula did disappear after a few days of using the steroids.

I'm not a doc, so you might want to ask a professional. However, I have the tightness in the throat as well. Being a cigar smoker, I worry about cancer as well. I have had the problem for a while and let me make a suggestion. When your husband has the tightness in his throat, have him put is head down like he is laying his head in his lap or placing his head on a desk face down. If the tightness goes away, his uvula is laying on his throat. This kicks in the gag reflexs and makes the throat seem tight. The only reason I know is because my uvula is laying on my tongue constantly. My understanding is that you can have surgery, but I have not came to that point yet. I hope this helps.
