I’m a 26 year old male. Some advice on a problem I’ve had for a good few years now would be much appreciated.
About 8 or so years ago, I came down with a bad outbreak of balanitis. The skin was raw, so as it healed it ended up adhering together. Essentially my foreskin became adhered all the way around almost to my glands in the healing process, which caused a lot of problems.
I had surgery which went some way to freeing these adhesions.
However, even before that surgery, I had a small patch that looks almost like an ulcer where my inner foreskin meets just below the glands. Some weeks it’ll just itch and weep pus. Other weeks however it will flare up, the skin around goes red, begins to peel and the ulcer will collect even more pus.
What worries me though is that this has failed to ‘heal’ after almost 8 years, and every time a flare up happens the ulcer seems to erode the skin and become ever deeper.
I went through a period where i was prescribed betamethasone, hydrocortisone etc to handle the inflammation. Then I tried to resist medicating whatsoever, as I believed it might be doing more harm than good.
But for now, I’m back to just using clotrizamole to handle any flare ups when they occur as i’m tired of sitting back and watching more tissue being lost. Whether the cause of my problem is fungal or not, I don’t know.
Clotrimazole will only reduce the swelling and turn the skin back to normal for a couple of weeks at most, before it flares again.
Anyone have any idea what this could be?
