I am 26 years old and lately I have noticed that my foreskin has a dry skin around one side of it. I think that due to masturbation and sex I have also rubbed the dry skin against my head and made that sore in. First it doesn’t seem to be a problem, but the dry skin seems to be getting worse and flaky, and has become sore. Since I noticed the problem I decided to stop with sex or masturbation! This soreness is coming from dry skin
Also I have experienced quite bad dandruff, and my face gets very dry. What could be a cause for this, and is this serious?

Well I would suggest you to try some sort of non-scented moisturiser or aqueous cream, unless you have picked up some sort of fungus infection. In the States doctors are not circumcision happy so go and see one if this does not help.

Hey there,
I would visit a doctor or better an urologist, because you may have a slight infection which is causing the dryness and tearing.

I've been putting up with this for some time now. The only thing that seems to work, is stop having sex/masturbating for about a week to allow everything plenty of time to heal. and I use a "Creamy" diaper rash ointment with zinc oxide and vitamins E and A. There are also lotions (usually burn creams with lidocaine) that will help with itching.
Maybe my problem is different, but it sounds just like what everyone is describing. Remember also to keep from moving around too much. Anything that will cause rubbing against the dry skin. I also try to keep things "adjusted" so there is no skin to skin contact. This could cause you to sweat. Moisture seems to make things itch more.

dry foreskin with rashes may be infection of fungus, because of masturbating for 15 years and not cleaning, i got chronic fungal infection and have to get it circumcised and I am not even sure that will help with my condition.

I have the problem you are describing right now. Search candida, or fungal infection (candida) on google, and you're symptoms might match theirs. Umm...I currently just got off anti-biotics for the second time this month, my scalp is itchy, the corners of my mouth are cut open, my anus has been really irritated when in contact with anything, or even thinking about it makes it seem itchy. As well, my foreskin is swollen at the tip, is dry, red and irritated.

i have had this problem for a while now. rash on the bottom 2/3 of the head of my penis and my foreskin. skin looks red and wrinkled as if burned. some times it gets coated with dry skin in a matter of hours. other times while cleaning my foreskin tears but produces no blood. only slight sting. i do not masturbate regularly. havent had sex in two months but cant seem to shake it. only reason i come on here is that iam desprete. i have no insurence and the urologist wants 200 for visit. to tell me to see a specialist and 100 for follow up. tried salt soaks for a week. tried leaving it alone. tried just about everything except the lotions and creams. don't have alot of money to spend on dr. visits. just want this to go away.
thought it might have been from washing with antibactirial soap. or from mentholated condoms witch seem to irritate the situation.
thanks for listening. and i just want my penis to look normal again.

I stumbled on the site many times from search engines. This would be my first contribution.
For weeks i've been surfing the net trying to find some sort of reason for the dry appearance of my skin in some areas left unsaid. I worried and worried. I eventually decided to take a stock of myself and really try to figure out what could be going on. I paid close attention to my daily routine from the time I woke up to the time I went to bed.
Here were my observations (in no particular order):
- I had long hair (dreads) and developed dry, itchy scalp.
- I work in an air-conditioned environment (8am-4pm) as well as travel to and from the office in an air-conditioned vehicle. Although I live in the tropics where it can get pretty hot outside, being indoors with air-con for the majority of the day doesn't help. (Some of my co-workers also speak of dry skin, and/or dry scalp)
- I slept poorly at night, resulting in waking too late to eat breakfast. Not eating breakfast makes it difficult to eat lunch as there is a build-up of 'wind' in the stomach.
- My office is situated opposite a shopping mall and I was subjected to junk-food for my meals during the day as I was quite INDISCIPLINED and didn't wake up early enough to prepare a meal for the day, or even put together something from the night before. I was not eating properly.
- I WAS NOT DRINKING ENOUGH WATER! As we all know, water is critical for the flushing of toxins/impurities from the system. It is released as sweat which also helps to wash the skin's surface.
- I became lazy and stopped exercising regularly.
- I was quite uncomfortable with my life and spent nearly every minute, everyday, just worrying. At nights, it was terrible. Losing sleep didn't help. It just made everything WORSE.
SO HERE'S WHAT I DID.
I stopped worrying and decided to put things in order.
- I checked the pharmacist about my dry skin, she recommended Cod Liver Oil capsules with Omega 3. I also decided to get some Vitamin C and have the two, once a day WITH A MEAL.
- I try to drink at least one glass or two glasses of water (apprx 500ml each) in the morning after breakfast. I buy one 400ml bottle of water. I finish it by about 10am. I then refill the bottle about three or four times while at the office from the cooler. I visit the toilet quite a bit, but it feels good knowing that I'm doing well to keep things working and to prevent any complications from things not working.
- I take a walk at lunch from time to time, to different neighbourhood restaurants for two reasons: 1, variety in nutrition, 2, getting natural sunlight instead of being in an air-conditioned room whole day.
- I have a fruit (an apple, an orange or a banana) during the day when I'm hungry between meals or if I think that I didn't get enough fibre in my meals.
- I cut my hair. Hygiene is a serious matter. Dry skin flakes, I am almost certain can lead to other skin irritations. I am currently using (Revlon) ZP11. It seems to be working.
Without going on and on about the obvious, like properly drying and appropriately moisturizing skin after having a shower and before going to bed, I think that we, in general are not taking care of ourselves. We don't eat right. We don't sleep right. WE DON'T LIVE RIGHT!!! I'm not saying that we all live under the same conditions, but we are more or less made the same way. Some people take care of themselves and the rest of the world doesn't. Perhaps this could be the reason for seeing five to ten frowning faces to every one you see smiling everyday.
I told myself that I have to take better care of my body and more so, my mind. Worrying doesn't help. Defficiencies may very well be the underlying reasons for our health woes. Certain foods fight infection. Other foods are good for the skin. Some foods just make you feel good!
I hope my 'little' contribution has given some if not all of you who have read it, some sort of confidence to take control of your life and to get healthy. And don't forget to listen to your body. It knows you better than you!
Be sensible. Live right.

I'm cicumcised and I've been experiencing swelling on my foreskin for almost a week. Most likely from the last time I masturbated.
A have a friend who also experienced the same thing and said it'll go away on its own. How long would that take?

Hi,
This is a condition called balanitis.Balanitis is inflammation of the glans penis. Lack of aeration and irritation because of smegma and discharge surrounding the glans penis causes inflammation and edema.More common in uncircumcised males.
It is usually caused by poor hygiene in uncircumcised men. The inflammation can be due to infection, harsh soaps, or failure to properly rinse soap off while bathing.
One common organism associated with balanitis is a yeast known as Candida albicans. Balanitis may occur because of excessive growth of Candida, due to moisture and warmth under the foreskin.
It can be treated by applying Miconazole, an anti-fungal medication (like many over-the-counter yeast infection treatments). Most cases of balanitis can be controlled with medicated creams and good hygiene.
Inflammation has many possible causes, including irritation by environmental substances, physical trauma, and infection by a wide variety of pathogens, including bacteria, virus, or fungus—each of which require a particular treatment.
Retract the foreskin daily and soak in warm water to clean penis and foreskin. Apply bacitracin (not Neosporin) for pediatric patients if bacterial infection is suspected.
Apply topical clotrimazole for adult men with probable candidal balanitis.
If the symptoms persist, you would need to consult your doctor.
