I've been having problems with the Mirena (recurring bacterial infections). I'm going to have it removed asap. Just wondering is the removal painful? Inserting the Mirena was horrible, very painful.

Have no experience with this. However,i think having a foreign object inside u must be unconfortable enough for yo body, let alone removing it.All i know is that if it is painfull,u may be given prior sedation or painkillers.Just make sure the removal is done by a proffessional and all will be just fine.Good luck.

I too, have to have my Mirena removed. It's been in for the 5 years, actually 6 now. I am not using it for birth control reasons, just to keep my cycles from being so heavy, so my gynecologist said it could stay in a bit longer than the 5 years. Now like I said, it's 6 going on 7, and it's time for a new one. I too, wonder how much it will hurt coming out. I didn't particularly find the insertion pleasant, it was like the worst menstrual cramping and a pinch. We survived that! I have asked a few ppl and they have said that it hurts much less coming out than it did going in. That's all the information I can give to you. Lemme know it goes for you. I was told to take a pain killer an hour before the removal, whatever you have that is the strongest. I have some pretty heavy duty pain killers due to a disorder I have, but I know there will still be some discomfort. But yes, be sure to take something before you go and the more we relax the easier it will be....they always say that, but it's hard to relax!!!!

I had unprotected sex 3 days prior to removal of my mirena, and started my new birth control the same day. Could I become pregnant?
