I have mild copd. I quit smoking in 2013, took up running, fell in love with it, was doing great for a year and a half, then all of a sudden had to stop and walk, finding it more difficult etc, then started gettjng chest pain and heart palpitations. Had spirometry done and told mild emphysema. A year later I found out it was actually anemia that was giving me the problem running. I'm 47 and in perimenopause. It just happened so I got copd at the same time. I still wonder if the anemia triggered something in my lungs but the respirolgist says no. My point is, my fev1 is still 86%, but my Fef 25-75 is only 46 with my Fef 75 at 38%. But because my fev1 is 86, they say I should barely be noticing it. I don't know if it is because I'm a runner, but I notice big time. I trap air, I'm short of breath constantly. Even not moving. Toss and turn all night. Have to do pursed lip breathing. I can still run a 5k but really have to focus on my breathing whereas before when I quit smoking and began running, I could talk, sing, didn't even breathe heavy when I ran. Also, everyone is saying how low their readings are but running marathons . What about their hearts? My heart rate when running a moderate pace used to be in the 120's BPM, now it's in the 150's which is too high at a moderate pace for my age category. Not to mention I don't enjoy running or exercising anymore because it's such an effort to get through it. But I don't stop because I'm really scared I'll take a nose dive .

just had a chest x ray as I have had a cough for a month. Dr told me it shows hyperinflation which is indicative of COPD. I have run most days for the last 25 yrs so this is a real shock. I am an ex smoker. I am waiting for a lung function test and am really hoping the hyperinflation might be caused by me taking too deep a breath in ? Clutching at straws maybe. Whatever the result of the lung function test I shall always do my runs for as long as I am able. I am female and 68
