I would like to know what septicaemia is. My husband was diagnosed first with pneumonia. He was on therapy, but very soon after the additional blood test was done doctor found out that he actually has septicaemia. I am very worried about him. He had severe fever. It is ok for now, but I am worried that it will come back. I need to understand his condition so that I can help him.

Septicaemia is an infection of the blood in which large amounts of bacteria are present in the blood. It is called blood poisoning and it can be life threatening. It is not uncommon that he thought that he had pneumonia because the primary site of infection may occur in the respiratory system. Septicaemia usually requires intravenous treatment, the speedy administration of antibiotics and other drugs.
