My boyfriend fell off his motorbike last Sunday after the van in front of him braked suddenly and he couldn't stop in time. It was a low-speed accident, he's was only doing about 20mph in a traffic jam and was doing maybe 10mph after he'd braked. He fell on his right arm, with the bike on top of him. His arm's not broken - he's got full movement etc - and he's got no other injuries apart from a bruise on his belly where we think the handlebar got him, but he's got the most horrendous bruise covering his inner arm from his wrist right up to nearly his armpit and it's quite swollen along the lower arm. He won't go to the doctor or A&E, saying that nothing's broken and it's beginning to feel better (typical bloke!). I still feel he needs to have it looked at so I suppose what I'm asking is am I over-reacting or is there something that could be wrong that he just can't see?

Hi Talurve,
You can have full movement even with a broken arm. It could be fractured. That would account for the swelling. It could also just be a very bad bruise.
He's lucky, very lucky, on the abdominal bruise. He could have lacerated his spleen and that could be fatal.
Yes he should see his doctor.
Hope it helps.

Thank you! I showed him your reply, which persuaded him to go to A&E where the doctor told him off for leaving it so long before going in! Luckily (very) he's ok - no fractures or other problems, just severe bruising and a deep cut. I can stop nagging now :)
