about four days ago i started feeling sick, (sore throat, sleepy, chills) and just thought it was a reflux of strep that i had had a few weeks prior. But a day or two after the sore throat seemed to be more localized on the left side between the tonsil and the base of the tongue. The other symptoms have been on and off since but the pain has persisted through out. It is kind of similar to when you strain your tongue but has a topical point of pain in my mouth instead of the actual muscle being strained.

Hallo,
Are you sure that your pain is not on your tonsils but on your tongue? If you have pain on your tonsil you could easily get this as a result of strep throat that you had prior to this pain. What have you used to treat the strep throat? There is also a chance that you have some sort of bump on your tongue or even an ulcer. Ulcers are very problematic because they can get infected and cause a lot of pain. You should try to use salty warm water and gargle it several times a day and see if you get any better. Also see a doctor if this pain lasts longer then few days.
Regards,
Karen
