My left middle finger hurts when it's cold or bumped just right sometime the other two finger tips at the knuckle area hurt too. It's super painful and sometimes random. I've heard it's a nerve thing or something called reynauds disease...

this also might be caused by your fingernail tearing away from your actual finger itself.

Hi, hope this post helps someone suffering with a glomus tumour.
I self diagnosed my glomus tumour through a forum similar to this when googling my symptoms for the umpteenth time.
I had a growth under the nail on my left ring finger. It gradually got worse over 20 years, it something I learned to live with until the pain became unbearable.
The glomus tumour/growth caused the nail bed to rise up and the nail had a blue-ish/ bluish colour to it.
Knocking or banging the finger nail caused extreme pain, excruciating, from my reaction people would think I had crushed my finger. Gradually over 10 mins the pain would subside.
Eventually the pain became worse in cold weather, until finger/nail was warmed.
Also some pain, but short lived, when finger was put into hot water.
Random pain too, waking me up at night, often with shooting pains into my wrist and arm.
Thankfully I found a forum that mentioned glomus, as I was seriously thinking having my finger amputated!
I went to the GP, who had never heard of it, but referred me to an orthopaedic surgeon.
I was sent for an mri scan, I lay face down and still for an hour, but only my arm was within the mri machine.
I was incredibly nervous to have to operation to remove the tumour. Yes they removed the nail, to then remove the tumour.
The anesthetic injection was the worse part. But it was over in seconds.
Big dressing and a sling. Then lots of dressing changes over the weeks and then a smaller bandage. The finger nail grew back, maybe about 6-8 weeks and my finger looks normal. No bump or raised nail bed, nail colour normal and best of all absolutely no pain for the last year! Bliss!
I wish I had had the fingernail investigated earlier, to avoid all those years of pain.
Anyway, hope this helps someone out there.

I also have random sharp stinging pain in my finger tips under my nail and in the entire tip of my fingers. I wish somebody would answer this medical issue without saying its a nail problem. it isn't a nail problem. It is painful, unexplained acute stinging pain in a person's entire finger tip, not the joints of the finger, but the finger tips. I already know I have arthritis and this is a different kind of pain, and it has nothing to do with being cold or an injury. It is exactly what others are describing .... sharp stinging pain in the entire tip of fingers.

I was diagnosed with a glomus Tumor on my middle finger of my left hand. It hurt like a b*^%h for 7 years and finally I got that thing removed. The doctor said it was a lot bigger than he had anticipated so a big chunk of my nail was removed. Healed beautifully. Now 4 years later the pain is back with a vengeance. It used to hurt in the cold, but now it doesn't. It hurts when I'm trying to sleep, and I can feel a pulse. I feel like the glumos tumor is forming again. Has this happened to anyone?

This is almost certainly a glomus tumor. See a hand specialist.

Thank you Linda, Joanne and anonymous 6/5/09. I have a similar problem with my left hand ring finger. Severe pain most of the time below the nail and finger tip. I am going to get the surgery done. Thank you all for sharing your experience. I have been suffering from it for almost 10 years. Been to many specialist doctors. None were able to help. Thanks to you all, I think I found solution to it. Thank you. Francis

Lol. I had to lay on my stomach with my arm stretched out into the machine. I'm very chlostrophobic, so I was happy I didn't have to go all the way in!

i had a friend who had peeling skin and she found out she was allergic to preservatives in frozen entrees. i have the pain under my nail near the matrix and thought it may be a glomus tumor, but MRI did not show it, so the diagnosis was arthritis. I had a shot in 2 areas of my thumb,(under the nail was a killer) basil shot was not so bad. i am day 2 after the shot and might be feeling a little relief but they say give it a week...
