Should you really have this surgery? My Rectal Specialist told me that I will be in constant pain for up to four weeks and then six to eight weeks after bowl movements. Why should I put myself through that? Will the fistula get bigger?

Hi slimmerline, I'm Brett. I think you should listen to your rectal specialist because he might be right. I know it's a pain to go through for eight weeks but, taking some unadvised steps could lead you into a potential disaster. Anal fistula surgery is one of your last resort, and I suggest you to consult with multiple doctors and specialists if needed. But the best case, in my opinion is to sit and wait. Take care of what you eat, not to irritate your bowel. And then, if you're still in pain after that time, then you need to get fistulectomy.
