My husband was having fevers, diarrhea, chills, abdominal cramping, and weakness for a few days so we took him to the local hospital (Pakistan). He was started on a course of Cipro, given pain killers and anti-vomit pills and told to stay hydrated and get bed rest.

Each time after he takes Cipro, he gets severe abdominal cramping, nausea, and diarrhea. Before Cipro. he had to use the toilet every three to four hours. Now it's every 30 minutes and the stool is watery with mucous and a small amount of blood. He dreads taking Cipro because for at least one hour after his dose he is completely immobilized and on the toilet.

He was told to take Cipro for 5 days, and there are 3 days left. Should he stop taking it or ride it out with the strong side effects? He has had a stool test which came back negative; nothing was detected.
