Hi there. I'm 26 and stopped taking the pill 2 weeks ago after being on it (various types) for 10 consecutive years - so, no kids yet. Two days ago, I discovered and pulled out a jelly-textured, nearly clear, and pretty much odorless chunk, about 2 inches long and 1/2 inch wide, with my finger. My first thought was that it might be the mucous plug that covers the cervix when you're on the pill. Anyone else have similar experiences? By the way, thank you all for your postings - I was glad to find this site after searching for "mucous discharge after stopping pill" to no avail.

Many of the post I read from women using birth control pills and patches have stated having similar symptoms of unsual discharge.
I wanted to inform you women that taking these birth control pills and patches there is a high possibility that you can still become pregnant and have a miscarrige and not even know it. I suggest doing some further study on these pills and there harmful side effects and the possibility of getting pregnant. This would mean that by taking these drugs you are inadvertently having an abortion. Your doctor may not tell you this information because they are backed by pharmaceutical companies who want you to spend your money on their drugs regardless of its harmful effects. Neway take a look for your self. It's time women become incharge of their own bodies instead of being told half the truth just for profits sake.

Has anyone out there ever had cervical cancer? I'm a 34yr old mother of 2 and was treated for moderate-severe dysplasia caused by HPV eleven years ago via a conization and LEEP procedure and have had normal pap smears ever since. Last week, I had rather vigorous intercourse which resulted in spotting that I noticed in my underwear the next morning. Went to the Dr. for pap smear on Wednesday (last one was 9mos ago & normal) and am awaiting the results, but am expecting the worst (cancer). During my pap, she confirmed that I had a cervical ectropia and two tiny spots on my cervix that were bleeding slightly so she cauterized them. My Dr. said that the bleeding could have been caused by the rough sex because ectopia bleed more easily, but what I'm really worried about is the possiblity that those spots bled because they were cancerous. To boot, I also had a fairly heavy period last month with lots of tiny blood clots, and more of the same this month (my period came about 4 days early this month). Now, its been 6 days since my period started and I'm still experiencing an alternate of some old brown blood when I wipe, BUT ALSO combined with some small darker pink/red mucusey clots. My obgyn asked me at the time of my pelvic if there was a chance that I could have miscarried, but not having been trying to conceive, I never considered that possibility. I am not on the pill or hormones of any kind--my husband and I use condoms.
From what I'm reading on the internet and contrary to what I understood about the wonderfulness of pap smears, it IS entirely possible to have a normal pap smear one year prior, only to be diagnosed with full blown cervical cancer the next, and I am scared. To make matters worse, I'm also now noticing a "pinchy" little pain inside where I believe my cervix to be, whenever I exert myself or lift (which also is what seems to trigger the newer, pinkish/reddish mucus clots). I quess my question is, has anyone out there ever have cervical cancer, and if so, what were your symptoms, staging, treatment and how are you doing now? Thanks, FraidyCat

it's probably just vaginal trauma, some women have less natural lubricant, which can cause friction and cause light bleeding which can take a while to come out, by then it could be brown

I had problem with thick, pinkish sometimes brownish mucus. I knew it could be infection (but didn't have to be) so I washed -inside, with herb Golden Seal. I have done it two times. Now I'M GOOD. No idea if the herb helped, but it looks like it did. I found this remedy (and there is lots of more) in this book; God's Medicine Is Best by Linda Wise. It is some natural medicine book. Good Luck!

It's perfectly normal to have thick, jelly-like vaginal mucus. It usually occurs right after your period and last a few days. I was thrown off by it too when I first noticed it, but it's due to hormonal changes in a woman's body. The mucus gets thick to prevent sperm from entering the cervix because the egg isn't ready yet.

Ok so of course most of us found this site by searching to find out why the heck we have this crazy discharge...glad to know I'm not alone! Thanks for all of your postings, hopefully someone will read this and be able to tell me what is wrong with me.
I'm 34 and had a tubal ligation 7 years ago. My cycles have run pretty normal until about 4 months ago. I began experiencing severe cramping and a very heavy, watery flow mixed with stringy mucus and clots whenever I would use the restroom (very graphic I know but I want to be very clear in my symptoms)..to give you a clue as to how "heavy" I was changing pads at least every hour or so and they were FULL! My cycle lasted like this for about 3 days (which is unusual since I'm a 7 day person) and then pretty much nothing after that.
I wasn't really making notes on when the mucus discharge would show up, which now I'm thinking I really should have kept a calendar or something. I mostly notice the mucus in the bathroom... alot of times stringing but still attached until I wipe. Yes, like most of you I have inspected it several times. Sometimes it's very snotty and is easily smudged and at times it is very well formed... strong and rubbery keeping it's form when pulled. I have no odors, no burning, or itching (aside from the normal when you shave). I dont have any other kind of discharge.. nothing.
This month has changed though...I am now 3 and 1/2 weeks late for my period... the mucus has once again shown up. It started yesterday and today the the mucus is bloody or pink.. again ONLY when I use the restroom. I even wore a pad thinking that I would finally be starting... but there was no sign of anything there.
I know this is long but I'm really starting to freak out a little. My mom had an early hyst. because of medical reasons... my grandmother died of ovarian cancer. Hormonally I know things have changed in my world... could this just be a sign of early menopause? I have a million things (as we all do if we sit and pick) that COULD be symptoms of one thing or another....if you have any answers let me know. Thanks.

I can't believe so many women are not educated about their bodies.
The egg-white consistency you are having is fertile cervical discharge. It occurs right before ovulation and aids the sperm in reaching the egg. If you see this discharge it is usually because you are about to ovulate. It dries up soon after ovulation occurs. It can also have a white lotion consistency.
I would highly recommend the book Taking Charge of Your Fertility by Toni Weschler. It teaches you the symptoms of different stages during your cycle.

I have noticed something quite similar. I started noticing a brownish discharge 4-5 days after my period ended. Then I noticed something like old blood type mucus when I wiped. This clot like substance only came out every once in awhile..not every time I wiped. It has been 7 days since the onset of these symptoms ...I also feel bloated and kinda crampy, and have loose stools...I feel like I am about to start my period but I just ended it..so what is this all about? I am a little paranoid..I always assume the worst...please ease my mind.

Well, my daughter just turned 1 this week so I stopped breastfeeding a little over a week ago - could that be the hormone change enough to cause the thick mucus discharge when I use the bathroom? I never had it before now and I'm 29.
