Hepatitis is a disease in which viruses cause inflammation of liver cells leading to their destruction.

Ted Lavoie is a 54 year-old man who has been suffering from hepatitis C for almost twenty years. The disease had damaged his liver to the extent of no possibility of reversal. His only option was liver transplant. However, the list was so long that he would have to wait for at least 5 years for a transplant.

His 24 year-old son Leo did a heroic deed and donated 60% of his liver to his father, so he wouldn’t have to suffer anymore. Leo’s blood group matched his father’s perfectly.

Ted Lavoie will stay for another 16 weeks in the hospital after the transplantation so that his recovery could be closely watched in case his body rejects the drugs.
