So i have been dealing with some spleen pain and discomfort for a few years now. It all started after having a bout of Mono. I didn't have a full on case of mono, it was very mild and went away after a few weeks. Since then though I have reoccurring pain or discomfort with my spleen. Sometimes it gets very bad and it becomes very uncomfortable. I am also very fatigued all the time. My doctor recommended I try Adderall for my fatigue and ADD symptoms. It helped me for a while but I became addicted to it and eventually stopped taking it. One side affect was that it made my spleen hurt even more. I am now taking Omega 3 and 6 to deal with the ADD symptoms (It actually works pretty well). As a side note, if anyone is taking Adderall or something similar, please be careful. I fear I have done way more damage than good taking it. I thought it was a miracle pill at first, but then it made things even worse.
My current symptoms are fatigue, irritability, ADD, and mood swings. This is putting a strain on my marriage. Even knowing that I have these symptoms, it can be very hard to control them.
When I had a checkup at the Doctor I was told that I had a vitamin D deficiency. I started taking Vitamin D supplements and found that if I take them, the spleen pain returns. As soon as I stop taking it the pain and discomfort go away.
I have yet to find a cause for my spleen troubles. I think that if I do get to the bottom of it, my fatigue, irritability and mood swings will go away.
I am curious to know if anyone has experienced anything similar and if they have been able to get any relief. I am planning on going back to the doctor to see if anything else is going on with me. I have read up on possible causes from cancer to a low level infection to heavy metals in my system.
I will follow up with anything I find and ask that anyone else with similar issues post their symptoms and history along with any findings.

Thanks for this post. I too have noticed spleen discomfort after starting Vit D. I thought i would try Vit D for no particular reason except for a cold winter and lack of sun. I have taken it for perhaps 3 weeks and then the spleen felt uncomfortable. Have never felt this before, and since not much else is different in my diet and habits, I will see how it goes to quit taking the D.

Since changing my diet to a plant-based diet, I have noticed a change in how I feel. My nails have grown longer and stronger than they have ever been (I'm 66), my skin is soft and smooth, wounds are healing -- all this manifesting itself on the outside -- I must be improving on the inside. I have more energy and generally feel much better. You might try it and see if you notice any improvement. It's a little difficult at first because it is different than what you are used to, but if you stick to it, I think you'll find yourself feeling better. Take one day at a time.

Im really sorry to hear about what you have been experiencing. I have experienced the same struggle you have through my overuse of ADHD medications in order to compensate for my lack of attentiveness and energy. I actually over did it so much with the medication that my spleen function became extremely diminished. With that said, there is a lot you can do to help you rebound from a spleen qi deficiency. To start I would recommend a spleen glandular product to help in rebuilding your spleen and its reserves back up. Are you familiar with the company Standard Process at all?

I'm not sure what caused my spleen to be enlarged but I too noticed that when I take vitamin d3 5000
It swells & hurts then goes back down after I stopped the D3. So I am staying away from vitamin D3.

Hello. I'm currently dealing with spleen pain. It randomly not daily, comes and goes and lasts only for a few minutes but is sometimes a sharp pain other times a dull ache for about 15 minutes. This has happened no differently when I've been taking a D3 supplement, and still occurred when not taking D3. Based on some of my test results (Sept. 2017) and researching and talking with my natural practitioner about my long term fatigue (reason for the tests) it is highly suspected that part of the fatigue is being caused by the resurfacing of an old mono/EBV (Epstein Barr Virus) that went dormant for many years and is now hiding but activating from in my spleen. You may want to consider being checked for EBV and viruses related to EBV.

Can anyone recommend a herbal solution or a diet to promote a healthy spleen? And there any dietary changes that are absolute if spleen function is found to be diminished?
