I had my twelve month anniversary yesterday following 3 stents and three months later a triple Bypass and yes I still seem to get the pain from Chondritis . It has been cooler the last few days and my chest is aching more so maybe because it is cooler

Your story is my story 1 year post triple Bypass . The cold and exercises aggravates the pain . I had a bone scan that showed Chondritis a few months post surgery along with part of the sternum that hadn’t healed completely. I also have a portion of keloid scarring and some of the pain is near that part of the scar. The cold is proving to be a trigger. I’m looking for answers and suggestions too. God help
Me if it’s still there in another 4 years

It’s been over a year for CABG for my husband and he is puffy in his substernal area. He had plates placed with his stern all closure. We can feel a click in his chest when he breathes deeply. He has pain in his upper left back and if he turn the right way (or wrong way), he gets a knife stabbing pain in his lower sternum that shoots across his diaphragm area. His WBC is normal ruling out infection. He has had chest X-rays that the doctors say are negative for complications. The pain is still there and sometimes limiting for activities. No one has been able to reason or diagnose this problem. I am a cardiac nurse and I am frustrated as to why we can not get answers! Anyone out there with any suggestions? Thanks!

I had a Thymoma removed...
After surgery my xiphoid was pressed outward from the tumor.
So..I then had another surgery to remove the xiphoid. There are times when there is a lot of pressure in my chest and neck...plus a very 'soft spot' in my abdomen.
Hoping you are better after all this time since your post....

Yes I have been experiencing the same since my open heart surgery 2 and half years ago, the doctors who preformed the surgery don't seem to know what the cause is, I have had many test and nothing has helped me at all, last month I experienced pain and discomfort with symptoms that I had after the surgery, I was not able to see the doctor because of the way the medical system is set up now, we are no long patients instead we are dollar signs and we are seen by appointment and on a system similar to a assembly line, has anyone experienced the same symptoms and if so, were they able to find a way to remedy the problem.

I don't think the doctor ever knows that. Whenever I go in they look to see if you are paid up before they will even try to make an appointment for you. So you never get past the dollar collector if you owe the company any money. I feel like Obama took us for a ride in his wayback machine. I just turned 80 and medicine is similar to what it was when I was a kid. You didn't call the doctor unless you thought you might die. Otherwise you just laid in bed and waited to get better. That thing they started taking money out of my paycheck for when I was 25 telling me it was to pay for my medical care when I got old was one of Congress' biggest lies.

I am so grateful for these posts about sternum pain years after open heart surgery. I had an emergency mitral valve repair 3 years ago. Great success with surgery but even after all this time I get the same kinds of chest pain that you have mentioned. I can cope with the discomfort but when the pain is more intense I admit to getting a little concerned. Good to know that I am not alone.

You're telling me that it only gets worse? I don't see how that's possible. I am about 15 months out of a double bypass and have horrible chest pain. Part of my problem is the Keloid Scar, but the surrounding area is so painful and tight. The only thing that even remotely helps is the pain medication I get from my primary doctor. Every test I have done shows things are healing correctly, but something is definitely not right. And the side effects from the pain meds are yet another issue to deal with.

I got a bypass surgery done few years back but after that the blood pressure drops on regular intervals. This causes unconsciousness for about two-three minutes. Why am I having this problem?
