Last Decemeber i had a serious bout of the stomach flu also. I was sick for days and had diorreah for the next 10 days everytime i tried to eat something. Its now december a year later and im still not over it. I lost over a stone from not eating where i constantly feel sick. I have had every test on my stomach thats possible and i visit one of the best hospitals in the world and they have no explanation apart from the fact a study shows some peoples bodies take up to 4 years to recover from a bout of gastroenteritus. The nausea is gross and so are the erratic bowel movements and pain. i have anti sickness pills which do help me but at the age of 17 i should not be relying on tablets to get through everyday life. I often cry about how sick i feel especially when you just want to feel well and youve made plans but get anxious at the thought of me having to run to the nearest toilet when im out. After a year of investigations ive decided that it is just my body recovering still as the doctor said but surely there is some course of antibiotics that should sort this put?!! has anyone else had the symptoms as long as i have??

I totally feel your pain, I just had a stomach virus and all those symptoms seemed gone after 2-3 days but now it's day 4 and I get really hungry cuz I haven't hardly eaten anything all week but now when I do I get horrible stomach pains! It's like a sick joke I don't know how much more of this I can take tbh

I got sick with this virus last Friday (it is now the following Thursday) and still I am not fully recovered. The first 48 hours were pure hell, nothing but vomiting and writhing in agony in between, no diarrhea though, so I guess I am thankful for that, vomiting pretty much subsided after those first 2 days, but still whenever I eat just a bite too much I am forced to breath heavily through my nose to stop the rising tide of barfing (if you are trying to hold food down and feel a barf coming on, you can breath very heavily through your nose back and forth to counteract the vomitting, just be careful you don't hyperventilate yourself. But now on day 7 my nausea is pretty much gone (thank god!!) but still whenever I eat I have to take one small bite then wait 5-10 minutes before my stomach stops bubbling and grumbling and the food finally settles, so needless to say it takes me about an hour to finish a 200 calorie can of soup, so I feel very weak and undernourished and have lost about 5-10lbs so far. It really sucks too because when I finally finish that long ass bowl of soup and attempt to lay down for a bit, I end up waking up within an hour like clockwork with intense hunger pangs since there is no more food in my stomach and my body is in obvious need of food and nutrients, it's very horrible to feel intense biting hungar pangs only to eat a couple bites and have an upset, rumbly and gaseous stomach, then have to repeat the process every 5 minutes to get at least a bit of food in me, and then only to get violently hungry again in an hour, I guess it is a good sign that I am at least getting hungry and my body is accepting some food at least (that is more than I would have been able to say 2 days ago), but it is almost getting to the point where I feel like I will have to live like this forever, will it ever stop?!

Like everyone on here, I too had the stomach flu. Two weeks ago I woke up in the middle of the night sweating, rapid heart rate, fever and then immediate chills. 10:40 I run to the bathroom and have horrible diarrhea. I go back to bed with deep breathing and trying to hold back the feeling of vomiting. 1 a.m rolls around and I once again run to the bathroom, this time actually vomiting. I tried going to bed after that but was woken up hourly severely dehydrated. When I woke up the next morning I drank few liquids and tried to fight off the full on fever. Couldn't bare the thought of eating anything. To move the story along, the next day I attempted apple sauce, and the day after that I was able to eat rice and bananas. I went to see a homeopathic doctor and he prescribed me with nux vomica, a probiotic, and a vegetable digestive enzyme. Two weeks have passed since I threw up and still get these massive waves of nausea. Some days it isn't as much, and others it feels like I have to wait by the toilet just in case. I feel like I am going insane with this!!

Side note: my boy friend had the same thing as I did, got sick the same night, and two days after he was good as new. Why is it that my nausea has prolonged?? Could it be a stomach infection, or a bacterial thing? PLEASE HELP!

I had a similar bout with a stomach bug. I felt fine and was asleep safely in my bed, when around 3am I was awoken by what I would describe as a typhoon raging in my tummy.  I laid there in order to try to figure out what was in my tummy's forecast. It didn't take a minute for me to figure out; what I thought was typhoon raging in my tummy, was actually a TSUNAMI! I threw off the covers and ran for the bathroom. I lept across the bedroom in the dark, one hand pulling down my britches, while the other hand in front (to keep me from running into the dresser).  As I rounded the corner to the toilet, I thought; 'I really need to get a lighted pathway to the bathroom like they have on airliners'. I immediately sat down on the toilet... waited... then realized, 'Hey self, you are POINTING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION!!'.  I had always prided myself on having not thrown up in X amount of years. Was I now about to ruin this perfect 15 year record? YES!, I spun around not even having time to pull my britches back up.  After running a quick calculation of trajectory, velocity and distance in my head, I steadied myself at what I thought would be a safe distance from the target (toilet bowl). The Tsunami moved in, my eyes watered and i heaved and.... nothing came out!  'Hmm strange', I thought. 'Well, I didn't actually throw up, so technically my record is still alive'.  As we all know the first indication of a Tsunami is always misleading, and I didn't account for this. What I thought was a false alarm, was actually the tide going out. As I started to rise up to my feet (still wanting to get my britches on before my wife saw me in this awkward position), It hit me! I tried to get back into the ideal firing position that I had established earlier, but did not have enough time. As this torrent was unleashed, I realized 'Self you are no longer in control of this'. I was right, I was just hanging on for the ride at this point. Not being as experienced in this aspect of life as others might be, I Forest Gump'd my way through it the best I could. I fought it initially and then told myself 'don't fight it, you had a big dinner and look at this as a good start to losing weight'. After a couple minutes, the storm was over. I sat there, slumped against the toilet like the lone survivor of an hour long battle. Still ravaged, I was finally able to muster the strength to pull my britches back up. I started to rise to my feet and noticed I was sweating ALL over. It's not very often I can FEEL sweat on my fingers, so I thought; 'this is quite odd'.  As if Mike Tyson hit me with a right cross to my jaw, I wobbled on my feet and slumped back down on the floor in what some would call a 'fetal position' (I call it a defensive position).  'What the heck is going on?' I thought.  I was sweating profusely and started to think there might be much more to this than just being "sick". As I ran a self diagnosis on myself and replayed every episode of 'HOUSE' i had seen, I came to the conclusion that, I was DYING! 'I can't leave my wife' i thought. 'Who would harass her for not rolling the garden hose back up?', 'who would she harass about not putting the dirty clothing in the hamper'? I knew if I was gone, It would just be devastating. I had to pull through this FOR HER! I wobbled to my feet and gripped the edge of the bathroom door, as I opened door a breeze blew across my face and the disoriented feeling subsided somewhat. I stood there fanning myself with the door until the sweating episode stopped. At this point I actually felt pretty good, 'I might survive this yet' I thought. As i stumbled back to bed and settled in under the covers, I slowly drifted back to sleep.

At 6am I was again woken and followed the same routine as earlier, however I was able to keep my pants on for most of the episode.  At times I went head first to the toilet when I should of been bottom first, and vice versa, but after 12 hours I was done with head first part.  I slept the first day about 15 hours without waking up. When I woke up, my body was aching all over. I figured either i really did get in a fight with Mike Tyson the night before, or my wife took advantage of my weakened state and pummeled me a few times throughout my slumber.  I rose out of bed, and still a little light headed I walked to the bathroom and turned the light on. As I looked in the mirror I saw the Crypt Keeper from that Tales From Crypt series that used to be on HBO. 'Oh my lord' I thought, I look like $^%*'!! My mouth was DRY and I really didn't feel like going ALL the way out to the kitchen. As I searched the master bathroom for a cup in vain, I saw the dog dish laying on the floor filled with nice, cool, clear water. I know what you are thinking, Drink It! But I couldn't, perhaps if I wasn't worried about getting the dog sick I would of.  So, like a 'Walker' from the show Walking Dead, I traversed the house to get a clean cup from the kitchen.

It has now been two days since my battle. I am slowly recovering. I couldn't have lost my "record" to a weaker foe and for that I have to render this little bug a salute. Right now, I eat a little and feel so full on the top part of my stomach. It's as if the food doesn't want to drop through to my colon.  I'm holding out hope that this is some kind of new diet bug that will help me shed some pounds for the summer, but also concerned that my stomach will not return to normal.  Either way, I guess I'll make it work. I always tell my wife that I would never cheat on her with anyone that is lighter than me (this lowers the odds of women I'd be interested in), needless to say she is eager to see that I do not continue to lose weight and has bought me some probiotics at the store.  I'll keep you updated!

Disclaimer: Tongue and cheek humor.  I love and respect my wife and wish you all the best in your health.

I have had this stomach flu for 5 days now...and just am able to keep bites of banana down....but....I have the most screwed up stomach from this stomach flu....I am afraid to eat anything. My friend just asked me if I was going to have a drink with him for the New Year, and I could not believe him he asked me that. I looked at him like he was the most stupidest person....he said what??? I said dummy...that would for sure put me in the hospital for dehydration......now he is pouting. what a freakin id**t.

same thing here, almost exactly same situation. mine started with what i think was food poisoning. then 2-3 weeks later stomach bug although i never threw up from the bug, but my wife and i were miserable with cramping and nausea for a week. every symptom said stomach bug. that was Feb 2013. still have a LOT of the same symptoms, only they do tend to be a lot lighter overall. i even did many bouts with antibiotics to flush my flora and body. nothing.

never fill you stomach 100 percent and leave it a bit empty so you feel like you are a bit hungry. cut soda and juice consumption by half of what you drink.chew you food slowly and efficiently .

I had the stomach flu in November of 2013 too...my toddler had it and I got all the symptoms except never vomited and only had diarrhea once.  I was constipated and had fever and so nauseus I couldn't move.  It is now the end of March and I have felt like this ever since.  I have had every test under the sun and they did find minor ulcerations in the terminal ilieum indicative of Crohn's disease, and inflammation of the stomach and small bowel... but I have been taking medication for Crohn's, including steroids, and the symptoms have not helped.  I took one round of Cipro and Flagyl for one week, and that did nothing.  I also have been taking a probiotic and fish oil and turmeric and eliminated gluten and soy entirely and reduced dairy significantly.  Still, so nauseous I can't move.  Is the virus still alive, and if it is, how do you kill it??
