suboxone

i have been taking a friend's suboxone to deal with an opiate addiction i just cannot seem to kick. i have been clean for as long as 48 days, but the physical and emotional symtoms NEVER get better. i have not used heavily in about 6 months. anyways, i took 2 - 8mg yesterday (morning and night) and i still feel ok. when will this wear off? i don't get regular withdrawels (not even when i walked away from 120mg of methadone cold turkey after almost a year of maintainance) but my anxiety gets very bad, i have body aches and i just get depressed.

i have surgery in the morning and my other fear is that i may have messed with the meds they are going to give me. i will need general anestesia as well as legitimately need pain medication afterwards.

Subutex lasts 24 hours,but has a half life of 48 hours,if having surgery id tell them what and how much you`v taken,also id either stick to taking subutex or not at all,you`ll make things worse by swaping between subutex and heroin,once you`v taken subutex it will block the effects of heroin,also if you take subutex to soon after heroin you`ll go into acute withdrawll,hope that helps...

first of all, the half-life is approximately 37 hours on average depending on person, second depending on how severe your withdrawal symptoms are the buprenorphine can relieve symptoms for anywhere from 8 to 12 hours, perhaps longer if your addiction is less severe. lastly, taking subs too soon after heroin will not just cause "acute withdrawal", it cause an EXTREMELY serious withdrawal syndrome called "precipitated withdrawal" caused by the complete depletion of your opioid neurotransmitters, precipitated withdrawal is no joke and can be worse than standard heroin withdrawal. be safe. cheers.

@ kay Its actually buprenorphine as a whole subutex will cause precip withdrawls just like suboxone try looking up drugs...

A Lot of misinformation on here. Suboxone and Subutex are basically the same thing with the exception that Suboxone contains Naloxone to prevent abusers from injecting the drug. The main chemical in both drugs is Buprenorphine which in itself is an opiate. Buprenorphine floods your opiate receptors and replaces any other opiod with itself, hense why it causes precipitated withdrawals. The Naloxone IS NOT THE OPIATE BLOCKER. The Buprenophine may be an opiate but it doesn't get you high like typical opiates. Yes, it gives you a buzz, but no high. Rather it satisfies your bodies need for opiods and keeps it content. It may be a hard concept to grasp but the opiod in this case is the actual opiate blocker. Quite strange, isn't it?

@JustKeepSwimmin.. the suboxone isnt to prevent injection its just the blocker. Subutex can be taken with other opiates as suboxone cant that's the only difference, you can shoot either.

@ the "guest" poster above me... That is so, so incorrect. I hope nobody reads your post and follows that advice. Suboxone and Subutex are the "same thing" in the sense that they both have buprenorphine, but Suboxone has the Naloxone which causes you to go into withdrawls if you shoot or snort it... subutex you actually can inject but only if you are already well into withdrawls (scoring above a 26 on the COWS test). I only know this because I just did it myself this morning and felt better instantly... made the mistake of doing the same thing before when I wasn't sick enough, and it sent me right into withdrawls.

It's the Bup that rips off any opiates on the receptors that cause you to go into precip withdrawal if taken too soon after a full agonist. Please do not spread misinformation.

First off to the question at hand....2 days tops.....second subutex (without the noloxone) is just a stronger bonding opiod to the recepters....this does not make it a blocker.....more of a detterent .....you can still get high as long as you do enuff to overwhelm the bubrenorpine on the receptors......third noloxone is narcan basically what the use for overdoses it washea away the opiods on the receptors and then blocks whereas the bup is the only this strong enuff to bond at this point the naloxone isnt there for the abuse potential its there for blocking for those who cant stop themselves from using hence the choice between subutex or suboxone im on subutex and in recovery and i can still use and get high just have to use more thwn usual to overwhelm the receptors if i took suboxone it would be a waste as i wouldnt feel it at all becuz of the noloxone and u can cook out the noloxone for injection so for those who say its to prevent that its bs i would say read up on ur drugs but apparently u cant trust the internet as its is filled with idiots and misimformation and misinterpretations the knowledge is there but u have to look in more then one place ask a doctor or prescribing nurse not another forum for information on such medications

First off someone said it right- a lot of misinformation here subtext and suboxone wil both block opiates because of there binding affinity to receptors. Bupe has the highest affinity therefor any opiate with a higher binding affinity would work but there is none. If you take subtext then another opiate say heroin it will not get you high. Naloxone does block opiates but higher the 2 mg is needed.

No no no. Please nobody think they can take subutex with other opiates. You can't use other opiates with anything containing buprenorphine. If you do, you either won't feel them or get sick as hell. Just please don't.
