I've been taking medication to keep my hypothyroid condition regulated for years. I am 59, and recently have gained at least 12 pounds over 4 or 5 months. Is this normal for my age or should I get my thyroid tested again. It's been a couple yearssince my last test. %-)

You should have your thyroid tested every six months with a blood test - Don't know who is managing your health but you should look into another doctor

Hello there.

This is way too much if you have continued with your regular diet and if you haven’t been eating like a lion or beer for the last 4 or five months. You should see your doctor as soon as possible and since thyroid tests – blood tests for thyroid – are done on a regular basis every 6 months you should ask him about this and maybe even consider changing the doctor.

There is possibility that you will have to increase the dosage of your medication or maybe even switch to another one and once you restore your hormones in balance you will probably lose your excessive weight. Keep us posted and I hope this you are going to be fine.
