I am 50 years old and I have just been diagnosed with parkinson's disease. I do not have to tell you how I feel right now. Even though I knew that I have some neurological disease (tremors, motion problems), I somehow hoped that it was nothing this serious. Apparently, it was. Now I am hoping that surgery for parkinson's disease might help, at least a bit. Is that possible?

Parkinson's disease is a condition that has no known cause and no known cure. All that can be done is try and ease the effects of symptoms. As for surgery, it is performed, but only if there is a definite proves that it will be effective for the condition's symptoms. Also, this option is used if standard medical therapies have been exhausted. So, I think that it is not an option that you can use right away.
