Hi, I have been diagnosed with tmj for almost 7 months , and now I have a new symptom, troubles with swallowing. Is this usual to occur by tmj?

Hi, swallowing difficulties are often seen problem of tmj. I even had problems with swallowing my saliva. So, I had to change my posture. As I sit here at the computer, I have to keep my back reasonably straight, and head held up straight. I also try to keep my lower jaw relaxed as much as possible, tongue kept on roof of my mouth (i can't keep it in my deep palate part so I hope between the deep palate and teeth is considered correct), and lips together (relaxed though).
Try to put your head back and chin down and then be able to swallow. It takes a lot of practice.

Yes, it is not uncommon with TMJ. I have this problem too. Be careful what you eat, i live on babyfood...use a blenderand small teaspoons. It is a kind of cramp in he swallow tract, the only help is not lie down, try take some musclerelaxing or valium, if food gets stuck, try coffing with closed mouth. And do not hesitate to call for help! Hugs.B.
