Hi original poster.

From the symptoms you are describing it sounds like it may very well be a viral infection. This could be anything as minor as glangela fever to the other extreme of HIV. 'Both will cause painful and swollen glands. I had glangela fever and suffered allot of the same symptoms however by the sound of your symptoms they are much more acute, however glangela fever effects different people to a ranging degree. Unfortunately i still often get fatigued very easily and feel light headed. Your doctor may have already explored these avenues however thought id share my experience anyway in the hope that it may help you.

Good Luck

I went through many tests over the years. I got tendinitis way to easy and then one morning i woke up with pain in my body like i had the flu. It went on a long time and I was sent to see a Rheumatologist. They looked at all I had been experiencing over the years, asked me some questions, poked here and there and diagnosed me with fibromyalgia. I did some research on my own and I know - because of all my symptoms - that this is true. I take certain meds for thyroid, cholesterol, pain, headaches, etc. Then I take certain supplements to supply my body with what was lacking: dopamine, serotonin, nor-epinephrine, low thyroid, vitamin D and an adrenal support because I had an adrenal system that was running on reserve. The only way I found all of this out was because I had to change doctors due to insurance and found someone who struggles with the same thing.

She ran all kinds of blood work and found that I was lacking in the areas above. She also found that I had had 3 viruses in the past that are known to attribute to fibromyalgia. So now I take what I need as far as meds and supplements and I had felt absolutely wonderful.

About 6 years ago my endocrinologist told me that I had a lump on my thyroid. He did an ultrasound twice within 3 months and no change. He said I'd be fine. In the past 3 weeks I have had swollen glands (typical to flu or virus) and also on the sides of my neck, pain in an area behind my ears (closer to neck). I looked some things up on the internet and started to feel around in other areas of my body. I have a sensitive area under my arms but toward the back. I've also been getting these nagging headaches that don't really go away with medicine. I also found a long lump in my groin area but it is not painful.

So I said all of this to say that I am calling my doctor to let her know that my glands still hurt (she gave me a powerful anti-inflammatory shot last week to see if this would help. It did not). I am also calling my endocrinologist and asking him some questions. Ultimately I will have blood work and an ultrasound on my thyroid to see if there has been a change. It usually pans out to nothing because fibromyalgia causes so many things to go crazy in your body so I have a feeling this may just be nothing. I'm not going to wait though because if it were something more serious, I would want to know now.

With Fibromyalgia, anti-inflammatory meds work. Also a non-narcotic pain med Ultram or generic form: tramadol works wonders. Helps you live a more normal life. You don't have to take it all the time and it is not addicting like narcotics. Moving is the best thing you could do because the more still you are the more your muscles stiffen up. Warmth is the greatest. A hot tube, a warm bath, a sauna, the summer (in which I cannot wait for the New England weather to pass so the pain will go with it! lol Hope this info helps someone! %-)
