Hello,

I have been taking Suboxone Oct. 27th, 2008, 8mg daily. Recently I found out I am going to need abdominal surgery again, as soon as this week. I am not taking the suboxone for addiction puropses, My GP was telling me that suboxone is now used for chronic pain management. I was taking fentanyl patches for almost 9 months and because I was on them for so long I started to build up a tolerence to them, so I ask my doctor if there is any other kind of pain meds, because I didnt want to raise my dosage and I didnt want to become addicted to the pain meds. SO here I am a week later, feeling good. Although, last week I started to form a big hard lump on my abdomen, which turned red, swelled, and is causing me to run high fevers. So I might need surgery as soon as thins week. My question is how long should I be off of the suboxone in order to be able to get the pain meds in the hospital, without the possibility of withdrawl symptoms, oh yes and sis I mention, I am still having a lot of pain in spite of the fact of taking the suboxone. I hope this makes sense to someone. Thank you for your time.

Suboxone will block your anesthesia for surgery don't do it. Profofal is the only thing that will work. Also suboxone eats away at your stomach and causes ulcer. I know this from experience . Doctors don't get it yet. Get off of it anyway you can! They do have an alternate patch that doesn't block opiates it's called Butrans.
