Hi there! A spermatocele is a benign cystic accumulation of sperm often found in the head of the epididymis that usually presents as a smooth, firm, well-circumscribed mass of the scrotum. They are common and their prevalence increases with age, and their natural course is uniformly benign. They are usually not painful but there may be some discomfort with palpation of the spermatocele. No specific medical therapy is indicated for treatment of a simple spermatocele. Oral analgesics may be prescribed for symptomatic relief. Observation is most commonly the rule in the treatment of most simple, small, asymptomatic spermatoceles. There are also surgical therapies: spermatocelectomy and sclerotherapy.
