I am 47 years old, and I've had a small (very small) bump on the side of one of my testicles. My best recollection is that it's been there for 15 years or more. When I was in college, I had some brief testicular pain and swelling/disomfort, and it was later thought that I had a brief infection of some sort that cleared up by itself. Later I noticed this small bump. It has never changed or increased in size, and isn't painful. I'm considering a vasectomy, but I'm parinoid that when examined I will be told I have some sort of cancer. Are there other likely things that this could be, especially since it's been there so long and has never changed?

Lumps and bumps could form during an infection especially if it were infection of the epididymis. This is an infection of the tube that lies on the testicles and it hurts pretty much and a lump may form. Considering you haven’t have it treated, the bump could have stayed.

Other causes could be cysts, yours sounds like spermatocele, again formed on epididymis, harmless and it rarely hurts.

Before undergoing vascectomy I would suggest you sought additional info about the whole procedure, post op problems and chronic pain that seems to develop more and more in men who underwent vasectomy. The whole procedure may not be as good as it sounds. You may search the forum, I read a lot of such stories.
Anyway, you should have this bump looked at as nothing exact can be said without examination.
