thought and opinions on implanon

I got the implanon put in 3 1/2 months ago and i've put on almost 15 pounds. I'm healthy and young and i work out regularly. So the weight gain is pretty extreme. Also i feel like im pregnant. All the same symptoms of someone who is pregnant. It's miserable and confusing... i am also having lots of trouble trying to get a dr to take it out now.

I got the implanon on Monday and i was on about day 4 of my period and it was very light at the time and it finished on the Tuesday. I have heard that you are meant to get your period for a month and then it goes away for the 3 years (sometimes spotting) but i havent had my period come back at all and i am worried that something is wrong because everyone i know has had their periods for over a month as soon as it goes in but mine stopped and hasnt come back... I hope this is normal ????

I've had the implant since october 6th, it didn't affect me in the first month but come november I started getting dizzy, then it stopped after a week or so. Then a few days before christmas, I was waking up with neck ache, I had migraine's for 2 weeks straight and now i'm just constantly dizzy. The only good thing about it is I haven't had any periods, but if this dizziness doesn't go away then i'll be demanding it out coz I hate it. Wouldn't recommend it to anyone

Im pregnant again with a boy and i need names. can anyone help i wouldnt get this thing as it can prevent preganancy and i dont want that i want more babies as they are beautiul to have and to hold

I have had my Implanon for 15 months, and had it removed a couple days ago.  I work out 5 times (kickboxing, weightlifting) per week and eat healthily.  I have gone up 2 to 2.5 sizes since implanon implantation.  I am very miserable with my weight. I had it taken out due to the severe weight gain. Weight gain is a side effect of the device; this does not mean everyone will gain weight, but it is a possibility. For those that state that implanon is an excuse and people just don't eat right is comparable to saying cigarettes are not a risk factor for lung cancer.

I have had implant in for 4 months now and started bleeding after 2 weeks of it being in and have bled practically every day since! I have joined weight watchers to lose 8lb and in 5 weeks i have gained half a pound! i just cant shift the weight and thats with me going to classes 3 times a week also!!(never had this problem losing weight on weight watchers before) I am getting the implant out next week and cant wait!! so long implant! i will NOT be getting it ever again!!

 

Hi, I got implanon a little bit after i turned 19 and the idea seemed amazing at the time. I was also in a stable relationship and I rather dealt with birth control and some spotting vs a baby because I had plans to go one to grad school atfter college. Long story short it was a great method and the only down fall that I had with its is that it made my acne go crazy and i never had bad acne a day in my life ever. After implanon i looked like pizza face and it was extremely damaging to my self esteem. I got it taken out because my life became very dull after my self esteem was destroyed. A yr later im still dealing with the side effects of the acne but its not as harsh. there scars are still there and im still in college and not pregnant or with a child. So at the end, so whats best for you but be aware of what could happen to u as well.

hi, I know this is like 5 years later than the original post so I know people probably won't see this, but for anyone thinking about getting the Implannon inserted I just wanted to share my experiences with it...
well first off I got mine inserted in May 2011 (over a year ago) when I was 18 and in a long term and serious relationship, when I got the implant inserted I was 5"8 and weight 10s 2, which is a healthy weight for my height and I was overall pleased with my body and never really thought about dieting etc. Now I'm 13s 8 and I'm unbelievably conscious about my weight and hate the way I look, I'm seriously debating getting it took out in the next week, nothing in my diet has changed (if anything I eat healthier) and I've even started exercising lately too but oh my god that weight will NOT come off!!
within the first few weeks of having the implant in I spotted a little but since then my periods have stopped altogether (that's about the only upside) although I get random aches in my stomach every now and again but they're not too bad.
I know that any birth control effects people in different ways I know that everyone I know who has Implannon has hated it and got it removed, I think I'm going to follow them!
the bottom line is is that Implannon might be the best thing in the world for you or you might dispise the thing, the only way you'll know is if you try it.

HIIII!!! lol...i know it's 6yrs later lol but i would just like to say that i had my implanon inserted on 1-14-11, almost 3yrs., and I ABSOLUTELY HATE IT!!!! I have a period for A WEEK AND A HALF EVERY TWO WEEKS!! Lately it's been nonstop for over a month. I went to the dr and they said it was nothing wrong with me! how unbelievable!!! My mood swings are completely out of control! I really wouldn't recommend this to anyone. I can't remember to take a pill everyday but i can remember to make sure i have a condom or keep my legs closed! lol.. good luck to everyone that hates implanon lol.

I've had it for about 2 months now and those 2 months were pretty awful. I basically had my period for that entire amount of time, but it was like being on the last 2 days of your period over and over again. I can't take daily pills because I forget so this made the most sense for me. I had headaches and was nauseous for a few days every other week, and my boyfriend and I couldn't do anything. My doctor told me to give it a few months to adjust to it, and he was right, all my symptoms have cleared up, so we will see how it continues to go, all I know is that I wont get pregnant now because my body isn't producing an egg. It's a solid way to go as far as birth control is concerned, if your okay with possibly having your period for several months right at the beginning.

I had a terrible experience with a similar brand of BC implant called Nexplanon - it may be the same implant, but perhaps a different name? I think so. Anyway, I had a terrible time with this device, using this was one of the WORST decisions I have ever made for my health for various reasons. I'll break down what comes with the device for me and what I've read for others in my research when I had horrible side effects:

A) The same night I got the device, I began having severe, throbbing head aches, like the blood vessels in my scalp were constricitng and pulsing. BIZARRE headaches! A few days later, I began experiencing nausea and some listlessness and low mood. My mood nose dived in just 2 weeks. And in those 2 weeks, I began to have something more unsettling: numbness in the implant arm, pain that shot down to my hand and forearm, and numbness AND weakness in other parts of my body, especially my upper body! How disturbing. Like many others here, I had break through bleeding, where the uterine lining becomes affected and it is shed more easily, resulting in excessive but light bleeding each day. I had to wear a panty liner for 3 weeks straight, which irritated my vagina and I now believe I may have a cyst from the irritation.

B) As I mentioned, be prepared for potential issues with the implant arm. The arm I had it inserted in was very painful, and my hand and fingers would become randomly numb. I also had a general achey-ness all over my entire body and I felt I'd aged 10 years in less than a month.

C) Difficult insertion but WORSE removal, and the longer you leave it in, the worse the removal may be - and the larger the scar. Mine is tiny because by the end of month 1, I was progressively worsening and said enough is enough and I removed it. But the removal, even after 1 month, was significantly more painful and upsetting than the insertion; I can only imagine trying to dig out the implant around the scar tissue after it 'settles' [yes, settles] into your arm three years after insertion will be a fun time. I spoke with a friend who had the device and she suffered nerve damage during removal. This is rare but yes, it happens.

Overall from my experiences and those of others, I would avoid. It was a terrible time for me, and I take Microgestrin now and it is okay. Some side effects, but I am trying to deal with them, and these are ones I CAN deal with without feeling insane and sick all the time.

Implanon was the worst birth control I've ever taken. It gave me out of control angry mood swings. I would be so angry for no reason that I had to fight off being violent. Fortunately my partner was very understanding. It also made my breasts hurt all the time. I also rarely had my period on it. I understand that everyone is different, but this stuff was horrible.

It's only like this for certain people... Same thing with the pill, it works on some and not well on others... People are different, that's all I cab say
