I have an apt with an ENT in a week. I think he will tell me that my tonsils need to be removed. Based on the amount I have been sick.
I am trying to do some pre planning here...
Can I go back to work the next day? I really dont want to miss work. I sit at a desk....
Is this going to be painful? I have heard some horror stories from close friends.
I am 21 and have never had a surgery, broken bone or really pain my whole life.
The worst pain i get is all the times ive had strep throat and tonsillitis.

Any suggestions or words from the wise?

Hi Kayjoh,

A lot depends on how well you recover.  Adult tonsils are bigger than those of a child so it tends to be more painful.  You'll probably feel worse the next day than the first day.  Why?  Because the pain meds have worn off that they gave you.  You'll likely have a fairly sore throat, bad breath, difficulty swallowing, and trouble eating/drinking.  You will likely be on pain meds and an antibiotic.

You might prefer to do the surgery on a Friday and have the weekend to help recover.

Then, in a week or so the scabs come off.  That will probably be the most painful part of the process.  Once they come off though the worst is over and recovery is pretty quick.

Good luck with your surgery.

I'm miserable after tonsil removal. I had my tonsils out 5 days ago, I'd rather be dead right now. When will the pain stop? How can I ease it right now?
