Hi! My boyfriend, a 22 year old male, had his tonsils out 7 days ago. He seems to be recovering nicely; no bleeding, and he said he doesn't feel he needs his pain killers anymore.

The problem is we have not seen each other all of this week due to some weird family issues, and we are one of those young couples very much in love and we generally have sex daily. I am picking him up tomorrow and taking him to stay in my home for awhile (still getting plenty of rest.) But as we haven't seen each other in a long time, we are probably going to waste no time in... ahem.

I have heard, though, that sex can increase the blood flow and raise the risk of bleeding. Are there any precautions/positions we can take?

This one is new for me. I am not aware that having vaginal sex can cause a man to bleed out post tonsillectomy. One possible scenario that I can imagine is having you sit on top of him while he performs oral sex on you. The occasional full weight of your body pressing against his head could have exerted a tremendous amount of pressure on his oral cavity, reopening his wounds. you probably will have to try real hard to make him bleed. I would suggest that you search the web to make sure that this is indeed true. If I were you, I wouldn't worry about it.

Well it is possible that the strain of having vigorous sex can cause a bit of bleeding with fresh stitches or something like that. The best bet until he is recovered is for you to both take it gentle. He should probably stay on his back or something like that, and you both should take care not to kiss too heavily as you might create a slight vacuum. I have heard of stitches popping out while kissing. Other than that, have fun!

I had sex a week after a tonsillectomy and ended up bleeding afterwards. You should avoid anything that's going to get your heart rate up for the first two weeks.

I had sex during my second week of recovery. The main problem for me was dehydration afterwards. I still was relying on a liquid/soup diet for food because I still couldn't eat solid foods yet without wanting to kill myself because of the pain. And when I woke up the next day after sex I was so dehydrated, and my body ached everywhere. ( and I was laying down for majority of the sex) I'd say play it safe and just wait a couple of weeks. Then, depending on how your healing process is going, make an executive decision on whether or not you think you're ready to get back in the game.

I'm still not adult, but I wonder if I'm allowed to kiss my boyfriend after the tonsillectomy, could it be a kind of infectious? Any help would be appreciated!
