I've recently started using tampons since my last period. The problem is that I can ALWAYS feel them. Sometimes they even hurt. Everyone I ask tells me to put them in farther, but I do just as the directions tell me.

Also, the applicator just pushes out like I've gone as far as I can go. That confuses me very much. I've never not been able to feel a tampon.

I want to have a normal experience with tampons, and this continues to frustruate me. Does anyone know what's happening here?

yeah it my need to be put in further to make it more comportable. you may need to relax your muscles when putting it in. you could also try O.B. tampons, they don't have an applicator, so it may help you to get it in the right place. If you do try this kind, wash your hands before and after, and read instructions

Try To Relax While Inserting The Tampon.

Hold The Outer Insertion Tube By The Finger Grip With Your Thumb And Middle Finger.
With The Removal String Hanging Down. Insert The Tip Of The Applicator Into Your Vagina At A Slight Upward Angle.
Approximately a 45 Degree Angle.
Slide The Applicator All The Way Into Your Vagina Until Your thumb and middle finger Touch Your Body. Then Push The Tampon Inside.

If You Still Feel The Tampon and are uncomfortable with it either go back to pads or try different brands of tampons, I Use Tampax Pearl Plastic and find that there the most comfortable brand for me.
But it differs for everyone.

Hope I Helped Out A Bit.

I was you about 56 months ago - now i can't believe i went this long without using tampons! I use tampax pearl too - the best i've found so far. i insert the tampon until my fingers are touching the entrance to my vagina, then (this works for me) i completely bend forward first, then push the tampon up and in. it slides perfectly. i can't just bend my knees or guess at an angle. I don't know but bending all the way down/forward works for me. who knows! also - i know what you mean about the applicator pushing out, but it's def. not as far as it goes. It just seems that way since you haven't mastered it yet. make sure you just push a little harder (but gentle too). You're not going to hurt anything. good luck.
